Louisiana 4-H University Brings Youth From Across the State to the LSU Campus June 23-25, 2009

4-H’ers from across Iberia Parish were named blue ribbon winners in various contests Thursday, June 25, 2009, at the final session of the LSU AgCenter’s 4-H University in Baton Rouge.

About 1,800 people – nearly 1,500 young people and hundreds more adult leaders and volunteers – from across the state participated in the 4-H University events on the LSU campus June 23-25, which included competition for trips and prizes, educational activities, as well as the election of state 4 H officers and district representatives.

The gathering is one of the highlights for 4-H members in Louisiana. 4-H is the youth development program of the nation’s land-grant university system and is a dynamic effort designed to help young people and their families improve their quality of life.

4-H’ers competed individually and as members of teams in more than 35 project areas, such as automotive care and driving skills, livestock judging events, nutrition, computer science, engineering, fashion revue, public speaking and home environment.

Iberia had one state winner, Micah Patout of LHS in Wildlife Judging.
