The Jeff Davis 4-H program has been busy with various events as the summer came to close and students returned to school. Events included:
Entomology Awards Trip: Courtney Priolan and Kelsie Stark, both from Lacassine, attended the State 4-H Entomology Awards Trip to Gulf Shores, Ala., on August 3-10, 2009. Kori Myers, 4-H agent, served as chaperone on this trip. Courtney and Kelsie were awarded this trip by placing first in the Entomlogy Demonstration Contest at 4-H University this summer.
4-H Educational Trip: Mia Langley of Elton, Laiha Bergreaux of Hathaway, Brittany Doise of Elton, Saige Doise of Hathaway, Beau Monceaux of Welsh, Leah Moore of Welsh, Courtnie Pollard of Jennings, Brittany Guidry of Welsh and Megan Inman of Welsh all attended the State 4-H Educational Trip to San Antoino, Texas, August 1-5, 2009. These 4-H'ers were awarded this trip by winning top honors at 4-H University this past summer.
Southwest Region Leader Training: Jeff Davis Parish had a team of youth and adults attend Area Leader Training July 28, 2009. Leaders attending were Sheila Thibodeaux from Jennings Elementary, Cassidy Juneau from Welsh High School and Karyn Mallet from Bethel Christian School. Youth attending were Dillon Richard, Leah Moore and Alyssa Watkins. 4-H agent Kori Myers also attendend. Alyssa Watkins assisted with the state executive service-learning session. Alyssa also presented a session on parental involvment for the Central Region Leader Training August 3.
State Foundation Workshop: 4-H agent Kori Myers and Jeff Davis 4-H Foundation member Tiana Istre attended the State 4-H Foundation Workshop on August 13 and 14, 2009, in Woodworth, La., at the Wesley Center. The workshop focused on how parishes came improve their parish 4-H Foundations.
Vet School Orientation: 4-H agent Silas Cecil and recently graduated 4-H'er Elizabeth Guinn volunteered at the LSU Vet School Freshmen Orientation. Silas and Elizabeth, along with other agents from the LSU AgCenter, conducted team-building activities to teach the student how to work together. The orientation was held on August 14, 2009.
LOST Camp: Jeff Davis 4-H'ers and counselors attended the Louisiana Outdoor Sceince and Technology Camp August 3-7, 2009, at Camp Grant Walker. They learned about outdoor skills, forensics, videotogrophy, wetlands and nature. 4-H'ers attending included: Hunter Lafosse from Elton, Amber Estes from Elton, Shyanne Broussard from Lake Arthur, Braden William from Lake Arthur, Maggie Mott from Hathaway and Haiden Guillory from Elton. Counselors from Jeff Davis were Jacob Broussard from Lake Arthur and Kelly Mott from Hathaway.
State Board Meetings: Brittany Doise, State 4-H Fashion Board member, and Laiha Bergreaux, State 4-H SET Board member, both attended their state board meetings this summer. Both youth work along with their respective boards to plan state events for the year. Brittany Doise was elected to serve as the photographer and scrapbooker for the State 4-H Fashion Board.
