Briscoe was awarded this trip by being named the Outstanding 4-H Leader for Jeff Davis Parish for 2008-2009 school year. This forum is a cooperative effort of the extension services from land-grant universities from 14 southern states. It was hosted this year by the state of Alabama.
This conference is to educate 4-H volunteers on programming ideas they can take home and use in their communities. The conference consists of workshops, fun shops, state pin sharing, educational tours, entertainment and state events. Workshops provide volunteers with curriculum information, ideas for club meetings and tools to help 4-H'ers in their communities. Fun shops are fun educational sessions such as line dancing, magic or bingo to give volunteers time to relax and enjoy themselves. The state showcase this year was themed as a tailgate party with the Louisiana delegates playing the LSU fight song while holding a hot sauce tasting contest and sharing items that represented our state. Briscoe and Myers partici[Image: Rock Eagle 2]pated in an educational tour to nearby historic Madison, Georgia, which has the largest historic district in the state of Georgia. Briscoe also participated in the first timer’s orientation, since this was her first year attending this conference.
Kim Briscoe is a true volunteer. She worked during the conference by serving as the flag bearer for Louisiana during the state flag ceremony and assisting with the Louisiana booth at the state showcase. Louisiana had a total of 40-plus people in attendance at this year's conference, which included more than 500 volunteers from the South. The Jeff Davis Parish 4-H Foundation sponsors volunteers to attend this conference each year.
