[Image: Kids standing in row taking picture.]Eighteen Jefferson Parish 4-H teens participated in the 94th annual 4-H University held in June on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge. Over 1500 4-H members from across Louisiana spent several days in Baton Rouge participating in state level competition or receiving intensive training in selected subject areas, such as Exploring the World of Sports, Forensics, and Dramatic Arts.
Jefferson Parish participants included: Whitney Williams, Jared Williams, Jasmine Haydel, and Theresa Keys, Grace King High School; Cyndle Valdivia, Heather Valdivia, Jenna DeVillier, Bryan DeVillier, Niall Lewis, and Jessica LeBlanc, Home School Students; Kayla Bellanger, Brittany Landry, Jessica Fazende, Alex Farizo, Salvador Caillouet, and Daniel Melancon, Fisher Middle/High School; Keith Luther, Ehret High School; and Kavon Faili, Word of Life Academy.
Jessica LeBlanc was named State Winner in the Public Speaking Contest. Brittany Landry was among the Blue Ribbon Winners in the Fashion Revue Ready to Wear Competition.
Accompanying the group were Ann Gauthier, Beverly Madere, and Chantel Williams, LSU Ag Center Extension Agents and Ronald Madere, Volunteer Leader.
4-H University is one part of the LSU Ag Center’s 4-H Youth Development Program, which is designed to teach young people valuable life skills by involving them in educational projects and service activities. Throughout its history the program has sought to help young people and their families improve their quality of life.
