Order your Broiler Chicks

To: Lafourche Parish 4-H Club Members

Re: Live Broiler Project

1. This contest is open to all 4-H Club members.

2. Contestants must begin project with at least 25 birds (but may get more than 25 if you wish.)

3. The birds will be heavy broiler type chickens, to be ordered and delivered by the 4-H agents to the Raceland Fair Building. Your chicks must be purchased through the 4-H office to verify age and type.

4. Your order and money must be in the 4-H agent’s office on or before September 18, 2009.

5. The chicks will cost $40 per 100 or $20 per 50 or $10 per 25.

6. The chicks will be delivered on Thursday, October 29, 2009. (Have someone at the Fair Building to pick them up and bring them home for you.)

7. The parish contest has been set for Saturday, December 5, 2009, at Poultry Day at the Fair Building in Raceland. Your chicks should be six weeks old on that date.

8. Each contestant will bring his or her best three (only 3) birds to compete in the contest in Raceland.

9. Your three birds will be judged according to finish, fleshing, feathering, weight, general appearance of the birds and uniformity.

10. A Top 10 pen of birds will be selected and the remaining pens will be placed in ribbon groups: Purple, Blue, and Red.

11. DO NOT buy chicks for layers.

12. Once you order your chicks I will send you more information on raising, feeding and selecting broilers for the contest.

NOTE: Keep a record of your poultry project and include it in your record book.
