2009 Livestock Validation Information

We will be validating ALL market and commercial animals this year for the 2010 district and state shows on the parish level. If you do not get your market or commercial animals validated, you will not be allowed to participate in the shows. If you are new to the livestock program or know of someone who is new to the program, please give me a call and let me know.

The validation for Lafourche Parish participants will take place Monday, November 2, 2009, in Raceland at the Agriculture Building from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. All market animals and commercial animals (expect hogs and steers) have to attend this validation.

Market hogs will also be validated on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Agriculture Building in Raceland. The date of the validation will be the possession date for market hogs.

Validation will take place in the front parking lot of the Agriculture Building inside the gates. Please enter through the gates closest to the barn and exit through the gates closest to the cookery building.

General validation guidelines:

  • Any animals validated for The State Fair of Louisiana 2009 shows and intended to be exhibited at the 2010 LSU State Show will be required to attend an LSU AgCenter validation site and be validated for the 2010 LSU AgCenter State Livestock Show.
  • Only validated market and commercial animals will be eligible to be exhibited at LSU AgCenter district and state shows.
  • Animals must be validated in either the exhibitor's name or in the family name (Family consists of parents, legal guardians, brothers and sisters.); if validated in family name, when official entry forms are turned in at the parish level, the animal validated must be entered in the name of the exhibitor who will show the animal at the district and state livestock shows.
  • The responsibility of tagging animals and collecting DNA/hair samples will be that of the exhibitor and/or parent. Agents/ag teachers must be present and can assist.
  • Market and commercial animals will not be officially classified at these locations; however, agents/ag teachers will assist exhibitors in determining correct classification for entries. (Official classifications will take place at the state show; District show managers will have the right to reclassify any animals that are obviously classified incorrectly at district shows.)
  • All validations must be conducted in the presence of and observed by agents/ag teachers.

Cost will be $4 per animal

Hardship Statement

I must be notified within approximately 48 hours of the end of validation if an unforeseen emergency or act of God has prohibited exhibitor from attending validation. After contacting me, hardship forms must be immediately filed with supporting material and stating hardship within 1 day. The deadline for making notifications and filing hardship are August 17, 2009, at 4:30 p.m. for Market Steers; November 4, 2009, 4:30 p.m. for Dairy, Beef, Sheep, and Goat species; and December 3, 2009, 4:30 p.m., for Market Hogs. These hardships will be evaluated on a case by case basis by parish agent, district show manager, and state show manager. Only cases where it is determined to have been unavoidable will the exhibitor be allowed to validate. This decision will be final and not subject to appeal.

Hoof Trimming Clinic

If you need your cattle’s hooves trimmed for the show season, please let me know by September 21, 2009 so I can get a head count to make arrangements. More details will follow once everything has been confirmed.
