National 4-H Week

October 4th – 10th is National 4-H week. So what does that mean? You, as 4-H members, must promote 4-H to help others become more aware of the many activities and projects available to them. Things you can do to celebrate are:

  • Ask local churches to acknowledge 4-H Sunday (October 4) and 4-H members who are present.
  • Get 4-H balloons. Distribute them everywhere!
  • Distribute a list of celebrity 4-H alumni. Scramble the names or have those fill-in-the-blanks.
  • 4-H'ers write thank you notes.
  • Make clover-shaped cookies to deliver to shut-ins.
  • Advertise a wear-green day. Distribute green and white mints to everyone who wears green that day; or distribute tickets to a fun 4-H event.
  • Send sticks or packs of gum with notes attached: Thanks for sticking with 4-H!
  • Have a 4-H pizza party for 4-H'ers caught wearing green during 4-H Week.
  • Create a media event by getting a commitment from every 4-H'er for individual service projects during National 4-H Week. Print their pledges in the newspaper and encourage the members to supply photos of their work. Better yet, send the newspaper photographer to catch the 4-H'ers at work.

Just a friendly reminder to be watching your water conservation!
Start with a few fun tips:

  • Turn off the water while brushing your teeth.
  • Make sure you have a full load of laundry before starting the washer.
  • Take shorter showers and use less water in the bath tub.

Remember, our water source, the Sparta Aquifer, is counting on YOU to save it. Every drop counts!!!

Chicken Fun Facts

  • The most eggs laid by a chicken in one day are seven.
  • If you make the chickens think it's daylight, even at night, they'll lay eggs that are bigger with harder shells.
  • The largest recorded size of a chicken egg was 12 oz and measured 12-1/4" in diameter.
  • The greatest number of recorded yolks in one egg was 9.

Character is important on the play ground and in the classroom.
Someday the character you portray in these areas will also be
the character you portray in the workplace.
