Nearly 1000 4-H members from 35 schools in Livingston Parish recently participated in 4-H Achievement Day at Walker High School. 4-H members and their leaders were recognized and rewarded for their hard work and accomplishments achieved throughout the year.
To be able to attend Achievement Day, a 4-H member is required to participate in one or more of the 4-H Projects and complete a 4-H Project Book for each project in which they enroll. During the school year the 4-Her’s document their work in their various projects. The documentation in their book consists of a project story, a listing of activities in which they participated, pictures of their project work, and any awards they have received.
At Achievement Day, 4-Her’s are tested on the knowledge gained by them during the year in their project areas. Outstanding Project Record Book Awards are then presented to the 4-Her’s based on their work in their Project Books.
Community Service Awards, Demonstration Day & Poster Contest results, and Talent Show winners are also announced at Achievement Day.
The final awards that are presented are the Overall Club Awards. Clubs are divided into six divisions according to grade and number of members. Points are awarded to Clubs during the year for their members’ participation in various 4-H activities. Trophies are presented to the top three Clubs in each division.
Outstanding Leader Awards are also presented to Club Leaders who have done an outstanding job working with their 4-H Club at the Parish, District and State levels.
