Challenge Camp 2008

Natchitoches Parish 4-H’ers attended Challenge Camp on February 21-23, 2008 in Bunkie, LA at the Louisiana Youth Educational Center. Challenge Camp is designed for youth from 13 other surrounding parishes to learn teamwork and communication skills while celebrating Louisiana 4-H’s 100th birthday. Camp participants enjoyed game night on Thursday evening and then a short dance. Friday was filled with five different educational stations consisting of: Outdoor Challenge Celebration 1 & 2 where teams worked through rope courses and other outdoor challenge to enhance teamwork and communication skills. Another station was Party Talk in which campers developed and filmed a 30 second 4-H commercial to celebrate the Louisiana 4-H centennial. In the Food Safety station campers played a game to learn the importance of food safety and enjoyed decorating cup cakes. The last session was a Celebration of Choices where participants were presented a situation and worked in groups to come up with a decision. Friday night was filled with activities as they campers enjoyed the Green Pack Attack which was a night time scavenger hunt, followed by a birthday party, bon fire and dance. Saturday morning campers participated in two service activities. They made bird houses and centennial bags. Campers also enjoyed a nature hike.

Those youth from Natchitoches parish attending Challenge Camp were: Luke Wilkerson, Morgan Marrow, Sylvia Martin, Kacee Winn, Lacy Conlay, Zachary Page, Adam Dalme, Katherine Bowen, Samantha Logan Taylor, Sarah Kassidy Savell, Allison Van Hoof, Melody Dove, Haley LaCaze, Gabby McDaniel, Cain Hammous, Michael Rachal, Natalie Bullock, Tanner Hernandez, MicKayla Burns, and Heather Salley. Jr. Leader Counselors were Cady White and Zack Gibson. Parent Volunteer was Belinda Page. 4-H Agents attending were Laura Brumbaugh and Hubert Wilkerson.
