Gwen Taylor Fontenot, FCS Extension Agent, welcomed and introduced ALC members. She also conducted a power point presentation about the Louisiana Cooperative Extension. Organizational structure and funding as well as the purpose of the advisory council were discussed. Members were explained their role, responsibility and expectations. A brainstorming session was the highlight of the meeting, in which members exchanged numerous ideas and concerns. The following is a list of the recommendations from the council:

Provide a series of nutrition education, food safety, financial management and housing education to low-income parents.

Continue to provide healthy food choice education and the effects of obesity lessons to children.

Focus on diabetes and high blood pressure when presenting to youth and adults.

Provide a babysitting and child development course for teenagers.

Implement more financial management courses for youth and adults focusing on credit card usage, budgeting and debt management.
The next meeting was held in March or April 2008. A specific date and time has not been decided. The meeting was adjourned at 12:45 p.m.
