Interaction With The Coastal Community [Image: Trade Adjustment Assistance Program] [Image: Marine Bait] [Image: Restoration plants on Barrier Island] LSU AgCenter/Louisiana Sea Grant Program is structured to assist in the appropriate use of coastal resources such as fishery stocks, habitat utilization and socioeconomic development of coastal industries. Workshops: Workshops are perodically held on local coastal issues such as marine shrimper assistance programs, bait industry development, harvest techniques and regulatory policy for different fishery items. TAA:  Upon federal approval of the Trade Adjustment Assistance programs, the Louisiana Sea Grant Program sponsored statewide workshops to help any shrimper apply for federal assistance. Bait:  Focusing on the supply and demand sector of the Louisiana marine bait industry, three statewide workshops will be sponsored by the Louisiana Sea Grant Program. Harvest Techniques:  With the emphasis on economy and environmental stewardship, workshops have been given in partnership with LDWF and NMFS/NOAA to explain the latest in technological and regulator changes. Site Evaluation for Coastal Issues: Based on the broad issues which are encountered in the coastal zone, the Sea Grant agent acts as a clearing house for all issues in the Crescent Region's wetlands. Topics such as recreational pond development, seafood processing, coastal marsh management, aquaculture and habitat restoration are all treated by this office. Public Sector Advisor: Commonly involved with steering and advisory committees such as CZM, parish councils, school boards and other civic organizations such as Rotararians, Kiwanis, etc., this office directs questions and answers to clarify the coastal situations in Southeast Louisiana. Resource Reference: As a contact person for all coastal activities, this office can facilitate the coupling of elements of the coast that would otherwise have no contact with each other.
