[Image: Character Counts Rules Image]The 4-H Character Counts Poster Contest is now under way for 2009. Any 4-H member can participate. The posters are due by your November club meeting or in the parish 4-H office by November 25. The theme this year is “Character DOES Count!”
You can enter only one of the categories listed below. Your entry should show one (and ONLY ONE) of the “pillars” of character. There are six: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
Think of a message, design or drawing related to one of the pillars of character. Draw and color your poster or bookmark. Design and make your pennant. Be neat, and make sure all words are correctly spelled!
NOTE: A contestant may enter only one category/division. In other words, you can make only a poster, OR a bookmark, OR a pennant.
Categories & Divisions:
A. Poster Category (11” by 14” is the only size accepted; this is ¼ of a poster board)
Elementary- - -grades 4, 5, 6; Jr. High- - - - -grades 7 & 8; High School- - grades 9-12
B. Bookmark Category (The bookmark must be 8 inches long by two inches wide)
Elementary- - -grades 4, 5, 6; Jr. High- - - - -grades 7 & 8; High School- - grades 9-12
C. Pennant Category (The pennant must be triangular in shape, made of felt, and measure no longer than 18 inches from straight side to the point.
Elementary- - -grades 4, 5, 6; Jr. High- - - - -grades 7 & 8; High School- - grades 9-12
Other rules:
- Entries should have your name, grade & school on the back (use a paper tag on pennants).
- Entries must be in color (use crayons, colored pencils, or markers).
- Entries must remain flat- - -do NOT roll them up!
- Pennants cannot have anything glued to them thicker than ¼ inch.
- Pennants do NOT have to have a dowel rod in them.
Awards:
- All participants will receive a certificate of participation and possibly a ribbon.
- Each grade division will have one champion who will receive a Champion rosette ribbon.
- The “Top Five” in each category will receive an additional prize.
- An overall winner in each category will receive a cash prize.
**NOTE**
It is your responsibility to get your entries to the 4-H Office. The 4-H agent can pick it up if you have it at your November meeting. If not, then you/your parents must get it to the 4-H Office.
Entries will be returned to school in January and we ask for each club to display them in the school halls.
