Child Care Providers Learn Ways to Encourage Literacy Two three-hour child care provider training classes were held on Saturday, June 13, at the Christian Care Children's Center near Pickering.  Approximately 40 child care providers from Vernon and Beauregard parishes and students form Louisiana Technical College's Lamar-Salter Campus participated in the classes taught by Jane B. Jones, extension agent, Family and Consumer Sciences, LSU AgCenter.  In both Learning Through Literacy I and the Literacy II-Using Storybooks to Teach Classes, participants made books and other items that will excite infants, toddlers and preschoolers about reading. Anyone interested in receiving a bimonthly child care provider training class newsletter may contact Jane Jones through e-mail or by phone at 318-473-6501. The newsletter includes a registration form. Costs of the classes are $7.50 per person for Class A and registered home providers and $42.50 for Class B providers.  Payment must be made through a money order made payable to the LSU AgCenter.
