[Image: Chilcare Provider Class image]Two Extension Service Child Care Provider Training workshops were hosted by Assembly Preschool in Leesville on February 7, 2009. Forty-two child care providers participated in the “Positive Guidance” class and 45 providers participated in the “Discovering Science with Young Children” class. Mrs. Jane B. Jones, Extension Agent – Family and Consumer Sciences, LSU AgCenter, taught each of the 3-hour classes.
Those participating in the Positive Guidance Class had an opportunity to make "feelings dice". These dice will help providers teach young children facial expressions associated with feelings. Those participating in the Discovering Science with Young Children class were given hands-on opportunities with ten experiences involving the senses. Workshop attendees participated in a "[Image: Discovering Science with Young Children Workshop]making bubbles" icebreaker activity. (2.) Child Care Providers in the “Discovering Science with Young Children” class practiced in estimating the yarn required to go around an apple. (3.) All participants received copies of the experiments to use in their day care setting.
Jane Jones has her Trainer III certification with the Louisiana Pathways Child Care Career Development System. The classes count towards the Louisiana Department of Social Services continuing education requirements for child care providers.
