FCS Advisory Meeting - February 5, 2009

A Rapides Family and Consumer Science (FCS) Advisory Committee/Working Luncheon was held at the Rapides Parish Extension Office on February 5, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Quincy Cheek, Assistant FCS agent and Jane Jones, Extension Agent in Rapides Parish, conducted the meeting with the following people in attendance:

Casey Lemoine, LSU-A Student
Henry Marshland, Family Counseling Agency, Inc.
Alice Coleman, Tobey Felders, Brenette Pipper, Cenla Community Action Committee
Cathy Dove, State of Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals – Early Steps
Donna Mathews, La. Dept. of Social Services
Carolyne Hoyt –NextStep
Rep. Chris Hazel – State Representative
Dr. John Barnett – Regional Director, LSU AgCenter

Mrs. Cheek opened the meeting by introducing members and sharing the purpose. Through powerpoint presentations, Mrs. Jones gave information about the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service and the role of the FCS Advisory Leadership Council. Afterwards, information was shared on the current nutrition and well-being and the family development programs that are currently being conducted in Rapides Parish.

The Rapides Family and Consumer Science Advisory Committee used the remainder of the time to identify key issues, discuss ways to alleviate problems and to prioritize the issues facing Rapides Parish.
