Rice Cook-Off Image Gallery

The Fourth Annual Rice Cook-Off for the Rapides Senior Citizens Centers Inc. took place on Thursday, September 17, 2009, at the Woodworth, La., Senior Citizens Center. Mayor David Butler of the town of Woodworth welcomed participants. A presentation was made by LSU AgCenter agent Quincy Cheek on the nutritional benefits of rice. The program focused on including rice for a healthy diet. Cheek strongly encouraged participants to go for brown rice because it is 100 percent whole grain. A 1 cup serving of brown rice provides two of the three servings per day recommended by the USDA MyPyramid. Randy Jemison, representative from the USA Rice Federation, provided awards and goody bags for all seniors who participated in the program.
