[Image: Showing goat during the goat show]The Rapides Parish Fair will have its Open Goat Show on October 17, 2009, on the Rapides Parish Colisuem Fairgrounds on Highway 28 West in Alexandria, Louisiana. Information is provided below on the rules, regulations and premiums for the show.
Rules and Regulations
PREMIUMS: 1st place - $20.00, 2nd place - $17.50, 3rd place - $15.00, 4th place - $12.50, 5th Place -$10.00
1. All classes of this division are open to youth exhibitors from Allen, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Catahoula, Concordia, Evangeline, Grant, LaSalle, Natchitoches, Pointe Coupee, Rapides, Sabine, St. Landry, Vernon, West Feliciana and Winn Parishes. Exhibitors from other parishes will be notified after the entry deadline date, provided that barn space is available.
2. Exhibitors must be under 20 years of age as of January 1, 2009, to be eligible to participate in the show.
3. Animals may enter the barn beginning at noon on Thursday, October 15, and must be in the barn by noon on Friday, October 16. All goats must remain in the barn until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 18.
4. Entry forms must be postmarked on or before October 1, 2009, to be eligible to participate in the Open Junior Goat Show. These forms should be mailed to: RAPIDES PARISH FAIR, 300 Grady Britt Drive, Alexandria, LA 71302,. Entry forms may be obtained from your local county agent.
5. All animals must be registered with their respective breed associations, and transferred to the name of the youth exhibitor, by the entry deadline, October 1, 2009, to be eligible to participate in the Youth Open Goat Breeding Show.
6. Exhibitors will be limited to one (1) animal per class. (Exception: Market Class) (Market limited to three (3) total entries.)
7. All exhibitors are required to furnish water and feed troughs, feed and hay. No hay to be used for feed or bedding in bedding area. Exhibitors will be responsible for care of their animals, cleaning stalls and aisles during fair.
8. All animals must be tied in their assigned spaces from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. each day (except for grooming and exhibiting). Exhibitors violating this rule will forfeit premium money.
9. Premium checks will be mailed to exhibitors following the show. Exhibitors who leave prior to the release time will forfeit all premium money.
10. Exhibitors are required to show their own animal.
MARKET GOAT DIVISION
1. All goats must be dehorned.
2. All goats must not show evidence of permanent incisors.
3. Wether or doe goats are eligible to show.
4. All goats will be weighed individually and classified into divisions. Goats eligible to show must be a minimum of 45 pounds. There is no maximum weight.
6. All goats must be slicked sheared within 7 days prior to the show.
7. Market Goats must be dehorned, polled, or disbudded. Any scurs or
horn structures must be blunted and not exceed one inch in length.
8. Champion Market Goat will receive $100.00
9. Reserve Champion Market Goat will receive $50.00
