The Red River Parish office of the LSU AgCenter, held their 4-H Open House on Thursday, January 31, 2008, at the extension office. It was an open invitation to all members of the community wishing to attend.

The party was held to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of 4-H in Louisiana. Many 4-H youth, former 4-H members and local citizens attended and enjoyed the light, healthy refreshments. They learned about 4-H events and activities in the parish. Visitors were also able to view information about the variety of programs offered throughout the 4-H organization, expanding from livestock, to science and technology, to fashion, to health and fitness, and to the shooting sports programs.

Refreshments included a birthday cake donated by David Coffee of Rivertown Market and beautifully decorated by Pam Thomas. There were also meat pies and crawfish pies donated by Lynn McCain, Natchitoches Louisiana Meat Pies, Inc.

Thanks also for assistance from Master Gardener Susan Wilson and 4-H Volunteers Nancy Nettles, Ashlie Keith, Jo Rambin and Philip Walsworth.  Susan also brought roasted pecans, Nancy provided punch and my Mom, Jo, stayed all day and helped wherever needed.

Article written by D. J. Rambin, Red River 4-H'er and Northwest District Representative on the State 4-H Board.
