Red River Parish is located in northwest Louisiana and consists of 388.6 square miles. Established March 2, 1871, the parish was named for the Red River which flows through the entire length of the parish. Coushatta is the parish seat and was named for an Indian tribe which once inhabited the area. Pine trees are the number one agricultural commodity grown in the area, followed by cotton and soybeans.
