Meeting Minutes
-- Minutes from the August, 2009 meeting were approved as written.
Financial Report
-- Our current bank balance is $3288.51.
San Francisco Plantation
-- Plants are looking good thanks to Lorraine’s hard work.
-- Vytex has been added.
-- A motion was made and seconded to increase the budget for the Plantation from $200 to $300.
Laura Plantation
-- We are invited to the Christmas Bonfire this year on December 5, beginning at 6 p. Jambalaya and beverages will be provided, but individuals are encouraged to bring finger food.
Destrehan Plantation
-- Jerry reported that he will plant radishes and beans in preparation for Heritage Days and that the weeds are under control.
-- The following people have signed up to work Heritage Days:
October 27: Marie – 8:30 a., until 2:30 p.
Jerry – 8:30 a., until noon.
October 28: Rose Marie and Jerry – 8:30 a., until noon.
-- Destrehan’s Fall Festival is scheduled for November 14 and 15. The following people have signed up to work:
November 14: Carol and Bobbie – morning
Marie – 12 p., until 5 p.
November 15: Marie – 12 p., until 5 p.
If you can volunteer for either day, please contact Sandy.
Twin Oaks Nursing Home in LaPlace
-- Sandy reported that the beds look good now. Vytex and lantana look good. Petunias will be planted next.
-- Sandy, Ken, and Rose Marie are doing the work, but if you can lend a hand, please give Sandy a call.
Veterans Home in LaPlace
-- Rene’ will set up a date/time he can talk to the Vets about gardening.
ARC of St. Charles
-- Bob Lotz single-handedly cleaned the green house. Thanks for a job well done.
Oak Alley Fall Festival
-- The dates this year are October 17 and 18.

-- A motion was made and seconded to give a 2010 calendar to the following Plantations: Oak Alley, San Francisco, Laura, and Destrehan.
Master Gardener Cook Books
-- A motion was made and seconded to reorder 100 Master Gardener Cook Books.
-- Patti will take care of ordering the books.

-- Thanks to Marie and Justine, we had a delicious presentation. We had cabbage soup (see recipe below), chips, dips, pecan tassies, cherry tartlets, punch and iced tea.

Marie’s Cabbage Soup
1-1/2 pound ground beef; sautéed & drained
2 cans Rotel tomatoes w/green chilies*
1 head cabbage, chopped
2 cans red beans, undrained
1 lg (46 oz) can V-8 juice
2 pcks Italian Salad dressing mix
1 lg can (29 oz or 3-1/2 cups) stewed tomatoes
1 onion, chopped (I used two)
*I used 1
In large pot, sauté cabbage and onion in small amount of oil (1tbsp); cover and simmer about 15 minutes. Add remaining ingredients; mix well and let simmer for about 1 hour. Can be cooked a day ahead and freezes well.
The pot I used is 8-1/2 quart.
