2010 Southeast District Junior Livestock Show

The Southeast District Junior Livestock Show will be held February 2-5, 2010, at the St. Tammany Parish Fairgrounds located at 304 North Columbia Street in Covington, Louisiana. The livestock show will be celebrating its 75th year in 2010.

This show is open to all fourth- through 12th-grade 4-H’ers and FFA members in Jefferson, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. John, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Washington parishes. An entry form can be found below. Entry forms must arrive in the St. Helena 4-H office by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2009.

An poultry exhibition form is available, also. This form must arrive at the St. Helena 4-H office by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2010.

The show begins at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 2. Animals may not arrive before that time. A complete schedule of events is provided in the links below.

The poster contest is open to all 4-H and FFA members in the parishes covered in the Southeast District Junior Livestock Show. The theme for this year’s poster contest is ‘75th Southeast District Livestock Show.’

There are two divisions: Sixth grade and younger and seventh  grade and older. The poster must measure 17 ½” x 22 ½” with a 1-inch border around the perimeter.

Only one entry per person is permitted. The artwork must be original and entirely the work of the participant. Pen and ink, pencils, paints, markers, colors and watercolors are all acceptable media. For more information in detail, see the link below.

Applications for the King and Queen contests are due by December 1, 2009, and may be mailed to:

These rules will be followed:

  1. Each parish or chapter may submit more than one application for each division (King / Queen Contest).
  2. The applicant must exhibit at least one animal at the 2010 Southeast District Junior Livestock Show.
  3. The applicant must be 16 years of age or older on January 1, 2010.
  4. The judging will be based on the following criteria:
    a. Record of experience in livestock production and activities.
    b. Record of achievements and experience in 4-H and FFA leadership development.
    c. Any additional information regarding livestock project work and personal accomplishments.
    d. Public speaking ability.
  5. The King and Queen may be from the same parish.
  6. A committee will judge the entries to verify qualifications.
  7. A committee will interview the top six applicants in each division and make the final determination of winners.
  8. No 4-H or FFA member who ahs previously received this award is eligible to compete again.

A copy of the entry form to be used is provided at the King and Queen Contest link below. This entry form and all other items must be turned in to the St. Helena 4-H office no later than December 1, 2009.
