2009 Shooting Sports Advisory Board Meeting

The 2009 annual shooting sports advisory meeting was opened by David Boldt at 9:58 a.m. at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, La. The members in attendance were Malcolm Anderson, Joe Barrett, Brad Barton, Bryar Barton, David Boldt, Mike Burns Brian Brewton, Sara Deen, Jeff Fitzgerald, Stefen Givens, Matt Gwin, Tonya Hicks, Tracey Hilburn, James Ray Hilburn, Lisa Holmes, Dakota Jenkins, Brittany Landry, Brooke Martin, Chris Martin, Jimmy Meaux, Ellie Melancon, Jennifer Moran, Charlene Smith, Chris Soileau, Justin Trahan, Sheldon Trahan, Ben Walton, Duke Hulsey, and Daniel Fuller.

Introductions were made by each member.

The first item of business was whether to add an extra day to the regional and state shoots. Joe discussed on wanting to break shotgun away from the other disciplines. Lisa made a motion to move regional and state shotgun to separate weekends. Malcolm seconded. Votes were cast and motion failed.

Tracey made a motion to make the regional and state shoots into 3 days. Lisa seconded the motion. Motion passed.

Discussion was made on what three days of the week (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) or (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.) A motion was made by Chris Soileau to have the regional and state shoots on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Tracey seconded. Motion passed.

2009 Shooting Sports Recommendations

10. General/Miscellaneous

A. Air Pistol, Air Rifle, and BB should be shot at the same place on a separate day than the .22 Rifle. The Air Rifle competition was held up by the .22 Rifles, thus, creating a delay which lasted till nearly dark. By making the Rifle competition on 2 days, Competitors can complete comfortably in the entire discipline. Air Rifle and .22 rifle will be held on different days.

B. Add an additional day to the Regional and State Competition so that kids wanting to shoot more than two events may do so. Did so previously.

C. Also, please rotate, North and South Regional so that every other year, you get week or two rest for state…..last year the south had two weekends in a row….it was really hard… Will take into consideration. Leap Testing, Easter Holidays and National Shooting Sports Trip helped to decide dates this year.

D. Possibly have a hamburger supper or some kind of recognition banquet. Stefen Givens made a motion to have a banquet/gathering at the end of each day during the regional and state shoots. David seconded. Motion passes. Brian said this would be a good time to invite the press for publicity.

E.To all shooting sports instructors, coordinators, agents, volunteers, and 4-H'ers. I would like to propose moving the Regional and State shoot to July and August. This would give our 4-H'ers more time to work together as a team. They would be involved in more competitions that would better equip them for Nationals and have many more opportunities to get acquainted with their teammates through practices, camps, and competitions. I would also like to see us take the top 10 shooters from each discipline at state and keep a running total each time they shoot together and pick the finalist from those scores. I believe this would give our kids a goal to aim for during each practice and each competition. The finalist should be picked by May 1st, leaving 6-7 weeks of practice/competition before Nationals. Recommendation voted on and failed.

F. Having the privilege to coach the Louisiana Smallbore Rifle Team for the past two years, I have been able to visit with coaches, coordinators, and 4-H'ers from other parts of the country, learning how things are done in other states. David Boldt is a huge asset to the program and has helped to implement some of these ideas to make our State shoot as much like Nationals as possible. My goal is NOT to have a first place national team at any cost, but to have a group of young people that are confident about themselves, know how to work together as a team, being honest and knowing how to encourage each other, and knowing that by giving it there all, they will always be in first place!

G.Go to three-day event at regional and state. Have archery, shotgun, and rifle and separate days because so many are duplicated in events. Already passed by a previous motion.

H. At least three pavilions need to be purchased - to provide cover at the regional and state competitions. Since each discipline is spread at, more than one pavilion would be needed. Depends on location of matches.

I.The shooting club near Shreveport was a parking nightmare and a muddy mess. The Lake Charles’ facility was much was much nicer.

J.For all the disciplines, it might be worth considering breaking the large numbers into smaller groups and assign each group a particular time to come to the shooting range. Reducing the amount of “down” time for the kids would also benefit the instructors and allow all to participate. Will work on relaying more disciplines.

K.Overall, the program was very well run and it was better than previous years.

L.Coordinate with other disciplines so that all team members can shoot at the same time at both events. Shotgun management issue – will try to accommodate.

M.Perhaps before the meet there could be a meeting with all the range masters just for them to look over their ranges and the facilities. Any volunteers that may help score may want to meet with the range master right before the shoot to go over scoring. Also each discipline needs a rule book close by. Range officers should have rule books on hand. Members discussed ways to handle scoring. Possibly training agents.

N. The only thing I could come up with would be to have each Parish have a registration fee for our regional shoots. We could then get any needed equipment or supplies for the regional shoot; also replace any targets and equipment needed for our state. Will not be charging any more fees besides registration.

O. The following rule should be taken out or enforced fairly. Range Masters giving partiality to coaches from their own parish, but threatening to disqualify shooters from other parishes if coaches don’t adhere to the rule: Event Coaching - As a general rule, limited coaching at the event site is permitted. However, coaching must never disturb other participants. A coaching line will be established on each range - behind the participant’s area and firing line and separate from the spectator area. Except during preparation time, coaches are to stay behind the firing line and in the coaching area. Coaches may assist the participant during prep time only. Once shooting for record begins, no coaching is permitted unless the participant asks permission from the range officer. Any request for coach assistance must be initiated by the participant; the coach may not initiate contact with the participant. The participant will put down their equipment, make it safe, leave the line, and then go talk to their coach. Coaches may ask the line officer to have their youth member come back to talk, but may not initiate contact with the participant. Coaches may not handle firearms or equipment after the match begins nor advance to the firing line unless authorized by the range officer. A coach may set up his/her own spotting equipment. Please note that specific coaching instructions may be issued at the range for each event (G) (R). Range officers must know and enforce range rules.

P.Need a “rain-out” SOP before shoot begins (G) (R, S). All agreed. Will form a small committee to work on plan ahead of time.

Q. One person from each parish, or each parish by discipline, is all that is needed for check in. Too many people trying to check in caused major congestion (G) (R). Management issue. Will work on better check in.

R.Provide level one coaches, in attendance of regional or state shoot, a state shooting sports t-shirt (G). We cannot afford to do this.

S.Loud speakers or bull horns need to be available for use on each range. Some people are just naturally soft spoken and can’t be heard by shooters and/or range helpers (G). Will add.

T.Gun safety, gun safety, gun safety! Some parishes are not enforcing. If instructors and parents won’t enforce, there should be a team of people designated as safety officers to enforce safety rules. Put them in an orange vest or shirt branded “SAFETY OFFICER” so they can be easily identified (G). Utilize more of Long Range Alley. Move archery to another location on the grounds to allow for more room for range and spectators (F). Kids are going to regionals and state and are not safely handling their firearms. Will include safety in handbook. Shooters and parents need to realize that if a child is unsafe on a range/shoot, he/she may be disqualified from that match. Enforcement needs to start at the parish level and range officers need to enforce these rules. Mike Burns and Malcolm Anderson offered to teach a NRA Range Officer Safety Class – Must be 21 years of age and handbook is $17. Also mentioned was using safety cards where each shooter would be given a card and that card would be marked when he/she violates a safety rule. Something of this nature will be enforced at the shoots.

U.Utilize more of Long Range Alley. Move archery to another location on the grounds to allow for more room for range and spectators (F). North Shoot Range Management.

V. John discovered this morning that there was an error on one of Allison's .22 targets. There were no doubles on this target, so it appears to be an oversight that only 9 of the 10 holes were counted. She had a 92, a 92, and an 84 (93). Her ag was 277, which means she won the match by 9 points. We realize that nothing can be done about it now, but future improvements need to be made. We also wonder if that 9 points made enough difference in the total team scores to affect the teams' placing. If so, that error hurt all 4 kids.

We noticed that there was no public posting of the scores; neither was the scores announced during the .22 awards ceremony. (Scores were announced during black powder.) Therefore, there was no opportunity for the kids to challenge errors. Also, if John hadn't been there, Cowboy's last 2 targets may not have been counted at all. He's the one who discovered the blanks in the chart. Happened in North - should have challenge period. Recommendation on posting scores was voted on and failed. Scores for regional and state shoots will not be posted before awards. If an error is made in computer entry of the scores, David will make things right for the shooter. No posting of scores for BB Gun.

W.Would you please get with David and see about getting a scoreboard utilized in the future? Many combined years of competitive shooting agree this is the best process. A simple poster board can be used with a grid pattern drawn on it. Each shooter's individual target's score is posted, as well as the aggregate score. Then, if there is a question, the kid/coach/parent can request the target(s) be pulled and reviewed with one of the road crew/scoring team. There are no surprises and no hurt feelings by this method.

X. It is also suggested that the shots be listed individually, not combined, as on Allison's target, which may have been contributed to the error. If the shots are listed individually on the target, such as:

it is easy to see if you're missing counting a shot. Even multiple 0's are listed in this pattern, to ensure all counts. A

8 doesn't easily show a missed count.

Y.Plugs and loops (eagle-eye) should be mandatory in the scoring shack. Already in place.

Z. As we all discovered, shooter position and target frame should be clearly identified. Two (2) placards can be used - one at the shooter's feet, and the other on the top or bottom of the target frame. Large numbers or even large alpha characters can be used. This is also standard procedure in the competitive shooting arena, and cross fires very rarely occur. Range management issue.

AA.I know Greg has issues with the junior rapid-fire. That also needs to be addressed. Safety should be our number 1 priority. When the integrity of the firearm is also compromised, that's a very big deal.

BB. I think that there needs to be a list compiled for each discipline that has the contestants, and the class in which they are shooting. These lists should be given to range masters prior to the event so they can get an idea of how many and the classes. Contestants that are shooting more than one event may need a star beside their name so that the range master knows that they may need accommodations. This should help the shoot run smoother. Kind of similar the class list posted at livestock shows. Copies of master will be put at all ranges.

CC.Even if you all make no changes in the shooting sports program, I think it's a wonderful, well run program. I did have a few ideas that might help, remember, I'm a mom juggling five kids at these events, so my perspective may be different from most.

It would be nice if we had a specific time to do awards at the end of each day. Not a long awards ceremony. Do just what you have been doing, but let everyone know it will be at maybe 6 or 7 pm.

I think parents will be less frustrated having to wait around. People were scared to leave for lunch because they didn't want to miss awards. I could have volunteered to help more, but we were trying to run between several events and didn't know how long until the scores were tallied. It would also be easier if a participant had to leave early to make arrangements for someone else, like their agent, to pick up any award. The kids (and parents) would also enjoy hearing how everyone did in the other events. Dakota has made some really great friends and they may not be shooting in the same events next year.

I guess I only had one suggestion, which says how great a job you all do! I just had a long list of reasons!

DD.Charlene Smith and I are proposing that we start a state wide outdoor skills ambassador board. The youth board would represent the entire state. The goals of the board would include the following:
1) youth voice for outdoor skills program
2) promote outdoor skills by creating promotional pieces
3) help with lost camp outdoor skills track
4) work at regional shoots
5) work at state shoots - giving out awards, helping with fun raising project, etc
6) other things as needed

The board would be selected by an application and recommendation process that would be developed. They would serve a one or two year term. Other details are in the work.

Basically we want a youth outdoor skills ambassador board for shooting sports/outdoor skills. Recommendation passed.

Joe, Charlene, David, and Lisa will be implementing this board. Possibly 3 ambassadors will be chosen from each region.

1. Air Pistol Discipline

A.Recommend teaching and shooting the National Pistol Match at Regional and State to qualify for the National Competition for Seniors. Recommendation passed.

B.If you fire the matches at the same place, a better backstop and better control down range. Barricades if possible

2.Air Rifle Discipline

A.Recommend shooting the full National Match at Regional and State for Seniors. Ex: Shoot 3P, Standing and Silhouette
Recommendation passed.

3.Archery Discipline

A. As far as the way things went this year I think it was all fine!! Just make sure to clarify the sights for the archers. I remember you came up to me and Leon and had a question about magnification on one of the archer's bows! Other than that I think you all did a fantastic job with the way things were run!

B. Jr. Barebow & Jr. Sighted Recurve Bows should not cost over $200 retail to discourage an equipment race and encourage more entry level kids (R and S) Recommendation failed.

C. In the field round for the recurve shooters, target faces should follow the national field round guidelines(R and S)

D. All recurve shooters (Jr. and Sr.) should shoot at a 80cm target face at 30 meters(R and S) Recommendation failed.

E. I think the ranges we used this year at the regional and state was great. If we use the same range for the north regional we need to tweak the set-up a little so we could shoot all 3 disciplines at once. As always we could use a few more people to help run the matches. One thing I would like to see checked and enforced next year is arrow weights. Just as we do gun weight and trigger pull in .22 rifle. I think we should hold to the national guidelines of 6 grains of arrow weight to 1 pound of bow draw weight. This will put the competitors on a more level field and will better prepare our national team for competition. If this is adopted it should be clearly noted in the 2010 rule book. Recommendation amended for seniors only and passed. Seniors will follow national rules for arrow weight and bow draw weight.

F. All junior archers should shoot at distances of 10, 15, & 20 meters (R, S). Recommendation passed.

G. More than two senior archers should be moved thru the field round at a time. This round took too much time (S). Range management issue.

H. Spectator area should be further away from archers (R). Range management issue.

I.It has been a privilege to work with shooting sports this year. As a rookie, it has been very exciting and also special in the relationships that I've developed with my kids. I look forward to working with this program again next year also. I would like to express some concerns that I have pertaining to the regional and state shoots. First, being my first year, I tried to find out all the rules that would pertain to each class that my kids would participate in, those being archery. I thought we had everything covered until we got to the tournaments. One issue was that dealing with optic sights on the compound bows. At regional and state both, my two compound shooters were told that these sights were not allowed. In the rules that you sent out it specifically said that they were. I don't know where the communication breakdown occurred, but apparently there was some confusion. At regionals, which I was at, it was resolved before the kids removed the lens from their bows. However, it is my understanding, that at state, they had already removed them and then were told that it was allowed. Once they reinstalled the lens, there was a problem with sighting their bows back in before the shoot. Please make sure that this in communicated before next year so there won't be any problem along this line. Another problem arose regarding shoes. I never saw any requirement for what type shoes were allowed or not allowed. One of my shooters was told that shoes couldn't cover the ankle, while another was told differently. While I may understand this requirement in rifles, I don't understand how it would have a bearing on archery. One was wearing flip-flops and nothing was said about that. The only safety equipment in the rules for archery were arm guard and finger tabs. Glasses and ear plugs were optional. I would ask that any requirements in regards to clothing be made clear before the next shoots. We want to follow the rules, but we need to know what they are beforehand. One of my better shooters was questioned about her shoes and her father was reprimanded about talking to her during the shoot. I did know the rule about talking with the shooter and should have warned the parents about such. However, between the two issues, this child got upset and shot as poorly as she ever has. Anyway, I just wanted to share these concerns with you. I think this is a great program and I don't profess to have all the answers; however I would make these suggestions as to some areas that it would pertain to address. Thanks again for the opportunity to experience the joys of what shooting sports can mean the lives of these kids. I look forward to next year and would welcome the opportunity to help in any way I can to make it bigger and better. Shoe specifications may be looked up in rulebooks for each event.

J. I recommend for JUNIOR sighted recurve they should be shooting at a 40 cm target at 10 meters, 60 cm at 20 meters and 80 cm target at 30 meters. At the field shoot the distances should have been at 17, 23, and 27 yds for the size target they shot at or larger target faces for farther distances.

K. I have a couple of suggestions on the Sr. Archery Competition. We need at least 2 more FITA archery targets so we could allow more shooters to shoot at the same time.

We also could have used more scorers to speed that process up. We also would need to set this range up a little differently if it is held at the same place next year because we had 2 arrows ricochet off the ground and go over the berm behind our FITA targets and over the rifle range. Rangemanagement issue.

4.BB Gun Discipline

5. Hunting Discipline

A. State contest, started too late in the day. Maybe we could break the contest up and have it start earlier. Joe can explain. Extra day should handle this.

6. Muzzleloading Discipline

A.This group was the last to get to participate and need to finish earlier if at all possible. Even if it meant them shooting on two different days. (State) Extra day should handle this.

B. At Regional’s shoot a condensed version of state contest to qualify 4-Hers.

7. Shotgun Discipline

A. Overall was a very good shoot and went smooth. No negative comments from kids or parents. I like kids shooting all three courses. Only comments was seniors had prom and some could not finish and I observed one junior (I was trapper) that dropped a 16 ga shell into a12 ga gun-parents and coaches need to screen shell bags-he may even of had duck loads-was at end of round so not checked. Good job and thank you for everything you do for our youth. Safety issue.

B.Review parking due to growth of sport-may need to hold each category on its own

C. Consider outside volunteers for trap/score so that parent/coach can be free to watch participant and assist if shooter has question or problem-did have a quiet kid that had a dispute but shy-parent got coach and it was resolved-turned out that 1 point did matter and it allowed him to advance to state. I bet law enforcement, gun clubs, boy scouts, etc would have personnel willing to volunteer if it was 1 day. Will look into. Have used college students.

D. Squad teams from parish together. Recommendation failed.

E.Shoot more shots to separate upper end of shooters such as 100 skeet, 100 sport clay 50 5 stand. Recommendation failed.

F.Honor request to shoot early if a senior with prom or other event same day.

G.Possibly shoot all in one day-just plan to have enough food/drink.

H.Add regular trap as a discipline for Juniors and Seniors at Regional and State since it is a National discipline. Discussed later.

I.I recommend the Advance 4-H Championship make some major changes in how the 4 representatives are chosen to make up Team Louisiana in the National 4-H Shotgun Shooting Sports Championship. My reason for such a statement is our athletes are not totally prepared by the time the go to the Nationals.

First, it would mean you would have to work the State organization in Skeet, Trap and Sporting Clays. You will have to know how many athletes would be available to participate. There are only a couple ranges in the State that are equipped to handle a large number of athletes. We need a self elimination process that will separate the athlete that are willing make all the tournaments and willing to work hard at getting on the podium for Louisiana 4-H.

The tournaments would or could be 6 to 9 tournaments dealing with all disciplines.

The makeup of the tournaments will be 3 each in Skeet, Trap and Sporting Clays.

Points will be award the top ten places and the high 4 shooter after tournament season will be the State representatives. You still could have the state tournament with only the top 10 shooters as the final in selection process.

This tournament format will get you and the athlete into tournament condition. The ranges owners will have exposure to Louisiana and LA 4-H program and possible members to their club. I know without a doubt the Sporting Clays range owners will welcome you with open arms. I do not have a feel on how the other discipline will react.

This is only a suggestion and their tons of detail that would have to be covered and writing a manual is not what you need at this point. One other point you need to have shooting clinic for these athletes because most of the parent instructors are very limited and that’s not your fault. Looking into possibly having a camp for those who qualified forNationals.

J.Liked the way that we got workers for regional and state matches. Liked that we took more kids to the state match. Would like for the regional and state matches to be at different ranges if at all possible. Overall a very good contest at northern regional and state.

K.I would like to possibly expand the shotgun program. Maybe offer 4 shoots two in the south and two in the north. Kids that want to compete for the national trip would have two shoot in at least two of them. The top ten shooters would be selected to go to a training camp at Windy Wood. Selection would be made at Windy Wood or the State Shoot. Still recognize the state winners in 4-H Shotgun.

L. Have Junior & Senior Teams consist of 5 members (mainly in Mod Trap). Don’t have to follow nationals on this. Makes it easier and faster to squad. Recommendation passed.

M. Don’t have practice shots for Mod Trap kids, they don’t need it. Continue to show presentation shots. Recommendation passed.

N. Shoot Trap this year if possible, delete 5- Stand or Sporting Clays

O. Experienced trappers and scorers’ are still an issue in the advanced shotgun games (i.e., established and non-established targets, the option in skeet, and trapper courtesy) (R, S).

8.Smallbore Pistol Discipline

None

9.Smallbore Rifle Discipline

A.Change the requirement for having a 3 pound trigger in the NRA 3 position 50 yard match. The NRA and 4H National rule is any safe trigger. The check in people can check for safety by smartly closing the bolt. If the firing pin falls, the rifle is unsafe. If the 3 pound rule is kept, a person with a high grade .22 rifle will not be able to use his/he rifle in our State Match. Recommendation passed.

The same thing would apply to the .22 rf Silhouette Rifle Match. Recommendation passed.

B. The Louisiana 4H Shooting Sports Program should conform to 4H National Match Rules. They use the NRA Smallbore and NRA Silhouette Rifle Rules at the National Invitational and LA 4H should use the same rules as well.

C. Recommend shooting the full national match at Regional and State for Seniors. Ex: On silhouettes, have ten shots at each stand instead of 5, and in CMP shoot 10 rounds rapid fire instead of just 5, etc. Recommendation failed.

D. Conform to the rules used at the National. 3# triggers are only needed in CMP, not in silhouette or 3 pos 50 yards

E. Have someone other than range masters checking in guns, so that the competition may start on time. Range management issue.

F.Do not allow youth to use guns that will not be permissible at state. Overheard those weighing in trigger pulls, “we’ll let you use it today, but it won’t pass the test for state.” Range officers will enforce rulebook.

G.Follow the CMP rules. Instructors taught youth these rules and then were told they would be disqualified if they knelt. CMP rules say they can sit or kneel. Range management issue.

H.Smallbore rifle relays should be done day before shoot and posted day of shoot, and take into consideration shooters in more than one discipline (R). Range management issue.

I.Smallbore rifle shooter numbers, relay info, and targets should be paper clipped together and in a parish stack at check-in (like was done at state) (R). Range management issue.

J.Smallbore rifle events not run efficiently. If a range master wants to watch his/her child or parish shooters, he/she should have someone there to take place…NOT shut the range down causing a delay in completion of the match. Facilities were very adequate and with only one short weather delay, we shouldn’t have been there as late as we were (R).

K.Move distance for smallbore NRA 3-P junior event to 25 yards (R, S). Recommendation failed.

L.Range Masters should not threaten to disqualify shooters for shooting in more than one discipline. Parent and instructor told to pull child out of another discipline or they would not be able to complete rifle events (G) (R).

M.Targets, stands, staple guns, staples, pencils, clipboards, etc., need to be at all ranges and ready to go. Wasted too much time looking for targets and supplies after designated start times (G) (R). Management issue.

N.Another problem arose regarding shoes. I never saw any requirement for what type shoes were allowed or not allowed. O.I feel that most of this weekend’s competition went very well, but there are a few concerns from parents. The most common concern is the rapid fire in the junior .22 CMP course. Most parents and instructors for our parish feel that this is very unsafe. Many children, including my own, came home with bruises from the stand to prone drop on the rocky surface, not to mention that at this age many of our team members do not have the control over the firearm for that sort of competition. We had several cross-fires when scoring because of this competition. They also have voiced concerns about the strain that it puts on the firearm. 11. Recommend a facility (Regional and State)

A. Wilderness Gun Club-Lafayette mgr is Scott Close
B. LDWF site in Woodworth
C. Hunters Run-Port Allen/Baton Rouge
D. I think there is one in Natchitoches but do not know anything about it-location may be convenient if facility is good.
E. Lake Charles Gun Club (Regional and State)
F. Keep northern regional shoots at Shreveport Gun Club and Long Range Alley (F).
G. Keep state shoot at Lake Charles Gun Club until environmental center at Grant Walker is able to hold event (F)

The Northern Shoot was voted on to be held at the Shreveport Gun Club and Long Range Alley.

The Southern Shoot was voted on to be held at Lake Charles Gun Club. Cajun Elite was second.

These regional sites will hold the contests for the next two years.

The State Shoot was voted on to be held at the Shreveport Gun Club and Long Range Alley. The state shoots will alternate yearly between the north and the south regions.

Possible dates for the shoots are April 30-May 1, 2, April 23-25, May 7-9. Plan A was to have regional shoots the same weekend (April 30-May 1, 2) and the State Shoot on

May 7-9. Plan B was to have the regionals on the first two weekends and the State Shoot on May7-9. Plan B passed. The Southern Shoot will be held April 23-24, the Northern Shoot will be held April 30, May 1, 2, and the State Shoot will be held May 7-9 at the voted on locations. David will check into range availability ASAP.

Duke made a motion for advanced juniors to shoot the same number of clays as the advanced seniors. Motion passed.

Recommendation for adding trap in shotgun passed. We will only have trap at state if both regional shoots have trap. (Please read amendment below)

All four events in shotgun at 50 clays a piece will be offered at regionals and state. Voted for and passed. (Please read amendment below)

Matt made a motion to vote whether we should limit the number events a 4Her can enter or not. Charlene seconded. To limit the number of events passed.

Stefen made a motion to limit the number of events to 9. Charlene seconded.

Much discussion went around the room.
Brooke made motion to table this rule for another year. Since we added another day, we need to see how the shoots go this upcoming year. Motion seconded by many. Motion passed.

David, in handbook, specify what archery face at each distance and rules for optical sights.

A page in handbook about safety will be added.

Mike Burns mentioned National Fishing Day on September 26th to set up Shooting Sports Display.
Committee discussed possibly having educational booths and vendors at shoots. Will discuss further about charging for vendors.

AMMENDMENT

Shotgun Subcommittee Meeting

September 11, 2009

Members present were Malcolm Anderson, Joe Barrett, David Boldt, Jason Holmes and Jimmy Meaux. David called a meeting to address concerns about a few of the recommendations that were discussed in the advisory meeting. Scheduling issues and the increased number of shots (almost 16,000) were discussed. Below is what was decided:

Regionals: (Advanced Shotgun)
Juniors will shoot - 50 trap, 25 skeet and 25 5-stand for 100 total
Seniors will shoot - 50 trap, 50 skeet and 50 5-stand for 150 total
Tentatively all in one day.

State: (Advanced Shotgun)
Juniors will shoot – 25 trap, 25 skeet, 25 5-stand and 25 sporting clays for 100 total
Seniors will shoot – 50 trap, 50 skeet, 50 5-stand and 50 sporting clays for 200 total
Tentatively broken up into two days

Modified Trap Teams will be 5 man squads and Advanced Shotgun Teams will be 4 man squads.
