  • Tell others about 4-H.

To celebrate this week, we are sponsoring a “Show Our 4-H Pride” Contest. We would like each club to create a display to put outside in front of your school. Some things the judges will look for are: creativity, involvement of 4-H’ers, if your display publicizes 4-H and originality. We want the community to see them, so be creative. We will award 1st and Honorable Mention to the deserving winners. Judging begins Tuesday, October 6th.

National Character Counts Week! - October 19-24

4-H’ers are reminded that they are role models for others and should demonstrate the six pillars of character every day. The six pillars of character are: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.

During the month of October, we should work on helping others develop RESPECT. Respect involves following the Golden Rule (Do unto others, as you would have them to unto you), being tolerant of differences, using good manners, and being considerate of the feelings of others.

Let’s promote character in our schools and communities!

This year, 4-H clubs are asked to participate in the 2009 statewide combined environmental and health care service-learning project by taking part in club competition! Beginning on September 1st, clubs should start collecting aluminum cans or pop tops and taking them to local recycling centers for payment. Records of the total weight of the aluminum turned in and of the amount of money collected should be turned in to the 4-H Office by December 1, 2009, and March 24, 2010. The money collected from St. James Parish 4-H Clubs will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House in New Orleans. The club that raises the most money will receive a prize and submitted to the statewide contest. For additional information concerning the efforts of the Ronald McDonald House you can visit their website at http://rmhc.org. Make this one of your community service learning projects for this year.

If your club will be participating, please let the 4-H Office know so we can put you on the list of participants.
