Awesome! Fantastic! Exciting! Educational! Fun! These were some of the words 4-H members used to describe their experience at the 2008 4-H Fun & Fashion Show held on December 10.

The activity, hosted by Fifth Ward Elementary 4-H Club, featured project stations and a style show. 4-H Agent Ken Guidry led the group in opening exercises. The project stations offered participants opportunities to learn how to make personalized pillow cases, to sew, to tie a tie and to model. The 4-H’ers went home with a packet of instructions for projects to try at home. 4-H Agent Robin Hart narrated the style show, which featured casual wear, special occasion and home-sewn garments. Participants in the show focused on learning how to model and building self-confidence.

Many thanks to Rachael Schexnayder, Myrna Schexnayder and Mollie Arceneaux for their assistance in making this event a success. State Fashion Board members from St. James – Christine Schexnayder and Geralyn Schexnayder, Megan Moran and Lindsey Arceneaux – served as Junior Leaders.

The host club provided refreshments, and volunteers supplied door prizes.

Participants in the event were:
Laynie Arceneaux, Lindsey Arceneaux, Breanna Bailey, Kaitlin Bergeron, Nadia Braud, Skylar Cambre, Hailey Detillier, Lamy Guidry, Ebonea Harrison, Ebonee Harrison, Da’Jahnea Jackson, Kyreal Jackson, Adrielle Johnson, Tywon Johnson, Sharmar Jones, Breshon Jones, Breyon Jones, Justin Louis, Claude Louis, III, Justin Louis, Keirsten Mitchell, Megan Moran, Tyronique Quite, Geralyn Schexnayder, Christine Schexnayder, Onesha Smith, Shaelan Spencer, Breanne Waguespack, Houston Wiggins and Shala Williams.

Fashion Camp kicks off on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 9:30 a.m. and concludes at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25. Campers will be busy day and night with an exciting agenda. Parishes have the opportunity to send a maximum of two 4-H campers (10-13 years of age) and one adult leader to camp. Because of limited space, Fashion Camp participation will be limited to 50 4-H'ers accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, reserved with payment and forms.

Registration fee for camp participants is $40 for campers and adult leaders and $20 for state board members and board leaders.
