What is 4-H?
[Image: Picture of 4-H Clover]4-H in St. James Parish is a part of a local, state, national and international youth program. St. James has 14 Elementary and Jr./Sr. Clubs parishwide with over 800 active 4-H'ersenrolled.
4-H Agents develop and execute educational programs and activities that provide youth the opportunity to develop such life skills as self-esteem, respect, trustworthiness, caring, responsibility, fairness and citizenship. They also provide education in community and citizen responsibility, decision making, organization and social interaction. They are assisted in this goal by staff members of the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center. School leaders, volunteer parents and other lay leaders, who share their time and talents in service to this youth organization is what makes it so successful in teaching our youth to become responsible, compassionate adults.
The 4-H Slogan, "Learn By Doing", is accomplished through record keeping, work in project books, method demonstrations, contests, workshops, junior leader club activities, camps and monthly scheduled club meetings.
4-H Funding for the 4-H program in St. James comes from parish government, state government through LSU and federal government through the Unites State Department of Agriculture.
