September 2009
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We have a very active 4-H program in St. Martin Parish, and for that we are truly thankful. Throughout the year we have tons of opportunities available for youth -- some educational, some competitive and some just for fun. We try to have something for everyone! Our goal in 4-H is to provide a safe environment for youth and to teach them to become successful, positive adults.
If you are a parent of a new 4-H’er this year, welcome aboard! Our educational program, Louisiana 4-H, has been in existence since 1908. It is because of the commitment of the people of our state that we have been able to exist for so long. In particular, it is the commitment and support of volunteers that allow us to have 4-H. Volunteers are vital to our continuing existence and the expansion of programming so that we can affect even more youth in our parish. We cannot do it alone. It takes you!
As the year begins, we already have started thinking about contests, camps, workshops and clubs. I hope that you will be interested in joining the fun. We always need volunteers to help, since we have so much to plan. So, if you would, take a minute to review the attached files and to print out those forms. Then check an area or two (or more, if you wish) on those forms concerning where you would be willing to help and drop the form in the mail to us. Our address is: 114 Courthouse St., Breaux Bridge, LA 70517. Upon agreeing to volunteer, you will be asked to do a short online training that you can complete at your convenience on your personal computer. Also available online are other educational opportunities for volunteers about 4-H youth development.
Trust us, the rewards are endless!
