[Image: picture of cooking demonstration]The St. Mary Parish 4-H Fun Day and Commodity Cookery Contest will be held Saturday, November 8, 2008, at LaGrange Elementary School on Chatsworth Road in Franklin.
The theme for this year's educational workshops is "Food and Fiber." The workshops will be conducted while cookery dishes are being judged. The workshops will be held outside (weather permitting). They will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end by 11:30 a.m.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. - Cookery Contest Registration (cafeteria)
9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. - Cookery Judging and Workshops
11:30 a.m. - Cookery Contest Awards
The Commodity Cookery Contest consists of the parish level of competition of the Eggs, Beef, Poultry, Seafood and Sugar categories. Grand champion winners at the parish level will be invited to compete at the area contest.
The Commodity Cookery Contest will have five categories:
Poultry
- Chicken Dish - contains fresh chicken.
- Processed Poultry Meat - processed poultry products.
- Other Poultry Meat - bird other than chicken or turkey.
Seafood - Seafood used must be listed on the Louisiana seafood list (See accompanying file).
- Crab
- Crawfish
- Shrimp
- Oyster
- Fish and Other Seafood
Egg
- Appetizers/salads
- Main dishes
- Desserts
Beef
- Low-Calorie Main Dish
- Quick and Easy Dish
- One Dish Meal
Sugar
- Baked
- Non-baked
- NEW! 4-H Birthday Cake Division. The entry is a one-layer, 8- or 9-inch round cake, decorated in a 100 Years of 4-H Theme.

Dishes that are not chilled and submitted in an ice chest will not be accepted. Each dish will be checked.
