Insect, Plant Disease, and Weed Identification

If you have an insect eating your flowers, a disease affecting your tomatoes or weeds in your lawn, the LSU AgCenter can help you to identify and solve these and other problems.

We have agents who will identify the insect, disease or weed and offer some tips for control.

Collect the sample, using the methods listed below. Bring the sample to our office at 500 Main Street, Room 314, Franklin, La. (St. Mary Parish Courthouse). Please do not mail these samples to the LSU AgCenter in Baton Rouge.

Plant Disease Identification:
Collect a sample of the affected plant, showing the damage. Please bring to LSU AgCenter Extension office at the above listed address.

Insect Identification:
Capture the insect and place in bottle or container. A plastic bag will suffice if the insect cannot chew its way through the bag. If the damage is to a plant part, it is also helpful to bring a sample of the damage.

Weed Identification:
If possible, please bring the entire plant, particularly any flowers or seed pods. These are very useful in identifying the weed.
