LIVESTOCK SHOW PARTICIPANTS
If you have a 4-H'er who will be showing livestock this year, you need to contact Ms. Mary Beth at the 4-H Office at (985) 875-2635 no later than October 2, 2009, so that you will receive the current livestock forms and information on any upcoming livestock events. Please have the following information available when calling: your current home address, e-mail address (if available), telephone number, your social security number, and type of animal(s) you will be showing. The deadline to turn in livestock entry forms to the 4-H Office is December 1, 2009. NO EXCEPTIONS!

4-H Enrollment Cards and Club Dues Deadline
4-H enrollment cards will be distributed to potential members at the September Club Meeting. The deadline to turn in enrollment cards and club dues is November 20, 2009. Parish 4-H dues are $7 per each child.

National 4-H Week
All across America National 4-H Week is October 4-10, 2009. Your club may choose to celebrate in your school or community.

Upcoming Events
Florida Parishes 4-H Outdoor Skills Field Day / Amite Skeet Club - Amite
The Florida Parishes 4-H Outdoor Skills field day is set for Saturday, October 17. It will begin at 9:00 a.m.at the Amite Skeet Club (Florida Parishes Skeet and Gun Assn, VFW Road, Amite, LA 70422) in Amite. Traditional field day activities will include shotgun shooting, rifles, and archery and some new activities such as 4-H fishing sports along with an educational section on Wild Hogs. (Shooting Sports Field Day flyer given at club meeting).

4-H Pizza Day
Join 4-H supporters from across Louisiana for a flavorful fundraising event. All you need to do is use one of the three 4-H Pizza Coupons on Thursday, October 8, 2009. Twenty percent of your purchase will benefit Louisiana 4-H. Enjoy something delicious from the Papa John’s Pizza Menu. Don’t forget to mention Louisiana 4-H. Coupons must be presented for special. Separate flyer was given last month & again this month at club meetings with coupons attached.

4-H Officer Training
4-H Officers elected for the 2009-2010 school year will be trained on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Covington High School Auditorium in Covington. Each club's President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Reporter, CRD Chairman and Parliamentarian will be given specific responsibilities about their new offices. 4-H Leaders will also receive training to improve club meetings throughout the year. Lunch will be provided on this day. We are looking forward to seeing each of you there. For more information please contact Ms. Amy or Mr. Bobby @ (985) 875-2635.

4-H/FFA St. Tammany Parish Livestock Show T-Shirt Design Contest
All 4-H / FFA members are invited to submit a T-Shirt design. If your design is chosen by the design committee you will receive a free t-shirt, recognition at the parish livestock show and recognition in the January 4-H Newsletter. Entries will be judged on creativity, originality and uniqueness. Designs must be brought or mailed to the 4-H Office by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2009. Design Guidelines: Designs should be submitted on 8 1/2” x 11” white paper. The design must be the exhibitor’s own work. It should be hand drawn. Computer images are not acceptable. A combination of the following animals should be represented: beef, swine, dairy, goats, sheep and chickens. Your design should be in color, but use no more than 4 colors. Do not use copyrighted pictures or slogans.

St. Tammany Parish Food Fest Contest
Start testing your recipes now! The St. Tammany 4-H Food Fest Contest will be held on Monday, November 23, 2009. The contest will be held at the 4-H Office on N. Florida Street in Covington and will begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at Noon. A participant may enter ONE dish per division.
  • Beef Cookery: Contestant must use at least one pound of ground beef in the recipe.
  • Divisions: Low-Calorie Main Dish, Quick & Easy Main Dish, or One Dish Meal.
  • Egg Cookery: Contestant must use at least four eggs in the recipe.
  • Divisions: Appetizer/Salad, Main Dish, or Dessert.
  • Poultry Cookery: Contestant must use at least 2 lbs. of bone-in poultry or 1 lb. de-boned poultry.
  • Divisions: Chicken, Processed Poultry Products, or Other Poultry Meats.
  • Seafood Cookery: Contestant must use at least 1 cup of seafood in the recipe.
  • Divisions: Oyster, Crab, Shrimp, Crawfish, Fish, or Other Seafood. (See list given to leader.)
4-H Babysitting Workshop
All 4-H members interested in learning more about how to be a responsible babysitter should attend the 4-H Babysitting Workshop to be held on Monday, November 23, 2009, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. The workshop will be held at the 4-H Office on North Florida Street in Covington. Topics will include safety, toy selection, age appropriate activities and more. Any 4-H member may attend. Space is limited, and your parents must drop you off and pick you up on time.
