Tangipahoa Parish Fair
All 4-H Club members may enter handicraft articles, baked goods and preserves in the 4-H division of the parish fair. To enter, see your 4-H leader for entry materials. You may also enter art work, rabbits, poultry and plants in the fair (you need to register them at the front office). All entries must be made, tagged and entered by 5 p.m. sharp on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, and picked up on Sunday, October 4, 2009, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. This is your first big chance to get points, but please only bring your quality items to be judged. Extremely important: please put your exhibitor number, name and your school initials (should be in the left hand corner of the entry tag). To enter, see your 4-H leader for entry tags and instructions.
******CHANGES IN FAIR ENTRIES***** Due to the huge success, we will be limiting the items to 20 or less in the 4-H Division again this year. Only 4-H members in grades 4-12 may enter items in the 4-H Division.
National 4-H Week/Character Counts! Week
National 4-H Week will be October 4-10, 2009. Visit www.4BrandNetwork.org for 4-H kit. October 18-24, 2009, has been designated as National Character Counts! Week in the United States. 4-H members all over the nation will be promoting Character Counts! Get off to a great start this year. You will get points for activities you do during this week. If you want to do this another week, just let us know which week and you will get points. Visit www.charactercounts.org to read up on Character Counts!
Pumpkin Carving and Pumpkin Painting Contest
Two Separate Contests
At the October meetings we will have a pumpkin carving and pumpkin painting contest. The pumpkins have to be carved or painted and ready for judging at your October meeting. These pumpkins can be decorated. You can only enter one pumpkin in each contest. We will judge and take pictures at the meeting. Each club's pumpkins will be judged that day for first, second and third place in both divisions (carved and painted). There will be four overall winners from all 4-H clubs in each division (Fourth Grade, Elementary, Junior High and Senior High Schools). Points will be given in this order: 50 points for club participation; 15 points for first place; 10 points for second place; 5 points for third place; 25 points for overall. Please have pumpkins separated. These pumpkins are either: carved only or painted only. Example...carved, carved/decorated, painted or painted/decorated. Still two separate contest. They cannot be carved, painted and decorated as one pumpkin.
Sewing Workshop
We will be having a sewing workshop again this year. The workshop will be November 23, 2009, from 9 a.m. until noon at the office in Amite. More details will be provided later.
