More than 1,500 4-H members from all 64 parishes participated in the 7th annual 4-H Day at the Capitol on June 5. The entire delegation had an opportunity to visit with their senators and representatives and were treated to a tour of the State Capitol. In addition, 4-H members learned about the legislative process, and some 4-H members participated in mock voting in the House chamber.
In recognition of the 100th anniversary of 4-H, both Governor Bobby Jindal and the Legislature proclaimed June 4-H Centennial month. 4-H Day at the Capitol began with an assembly on the Capitol steps with 60 legislators participating along with the state 4-H officers and LSU AgCenter Chancellor Bill Richardson, Vice Chancellor Paul Coreil and Associate Vice Chancellor Dwight Landreneau. State 4-H officers and administrators were introduced to the House and Senate. 4-H President Jonas Augustine addressed the House on 4-H. Immediately following the assembly, 4-H members wearing their 4-H centennial shirts were on the Capitol steps and in the rotunda and legislative offices and all over the Capitol learning about the Capitol and the legislative process. Pictured above are Terrebonne Parish 4-H members who participated in the 2008 4-H Day at the Capitol. Thanks to Senator Reggie Dupre, Representative Damon Baldone, and Representative Gordon Dove for taking time out of their busy schedule to visit with our 4-H group.
