Why is my Centipede lawn turning brown?

Question: Why is my Centipede lawn turning brown?

Answer: The recent frost has caused damage on many Centipede, Bermuda and St. Augustine lawns. This was enhanced if homeowners fertilized their lawns too early forcing new growth before the root system was ready. Many Centipede lawns were already suffering from drought stress due to the dry conditions we have been seeing.

Too much nitrogen fertilizer can predispose lawns to frost injury as well as diseases such brown patch (Rhizoctonia solani) that we see in cool, moist spring and fall conditions.
