Question: I recently planted a combination of centipede and Bermuda grass seed in an effort to establish my lawn. How long should it take before I seed the new plants begin to germinate and grow?
Answer: Generally speaking, you should begin to see these seeds germinate within three to four weeks, if properly irrigated. With the extremely dry conditions, you will need to water almost daily to get the seeds to germinate properly. You may also be seeing the Bermuda grass coming up from rhizomes (underground stems) that were already in place. Centipede grass seed is said to: “Sleep the first year, creep the second year and leap the third year,” so be patient.
