What winged insect is dark brown, 1/8th of an inch long and is on my tomato plants in April and May?

Question: What winged insect is dark brown to green, 1/8th of an inch long and is on my tomato plants in April and May?

Answer: Aphid (plant lice) populations are on the increase in our gardens. Aphids give birth to living young, and populations build up rapidly. They suck plant juices from underneath leaves and young terminals, causing leaves to curl and turn yellow. These insects can build up to very high numbers. They will attack most any plant grown in a garden, especially tomatoes. An application of ultra-fine oil as per label directions will keep populations to a minimum.
