[Image: group photo]September is National Rice Month and Union Parish 4-H members promoted it by participating in a parish cookery contest. The 4-H Beef and Rice Cookery Contest was held Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at the LSU AgCenter office in Farmerville.
Winners of the Beef Cookery were Brittany Coates, first place with Pineapple Beef Stirfry; Gabe Odgen placed second with Pizza Meatballs; and Amanda Linder placed third with Rice Dressing.
Winners in the Rice Cookery were David Rhodes, first place with Rice and Shrimp Paella; Amanda Linder placed second with Rice Dressing; Brittany Coates placed third with Sausage and Rice Casserole; and Gabe Ogden received fourth with Apricot Ham Rolls.
Bethany Rhodes and Ivan Langston served as Junior Leaders for the event and led two nutritional games, Nu-Twister and Pyamid Power with the contestants while the contestants dishes were being judged.
