2009-2010 Goat Educational Award Trip

Eligibility requirements and other details on the goat educational award trip available to club members that participate in the goat project. Specific requirements for each species including dates and places of each trip and the selection process to be followed. The following trip is available:

These award trips will be funded based on the funding appropriated for the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service programs. If reduced funding is encountered, the number of exhibitors selected to participate on these livestock awards trips will be reduced accordingly for this year.

The specialist that supervises an award trip will be sending out reminder letters with final details approximately thirty days before selection for each trip. If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact me.

The Goat Educational Award Trip is scheduled to travel to the following destination for this year’s trip:

2010 Goat Educational Award Trip – Southwest or Southeast US


Exhibitor -- General Eligibility Rules for the Beef, Sheep and Goat Educational Award Trips

1. 4-H and FFA Club members competing for the 2009 Beef and Sheep Educational Award Trips must be between the ages of 12 and 18 years inclusive on January 1, 2009. Club members competing for the 2010 Goat Educational Award Trip must be between the ages of 12 and 18 years inclusive on January 1, 2010.

2. Any boy or girl enrolled in college, regardless of date of enrollment will not be eligible to compete for trips with beef, sheep, goat, swine or horses.

3. Any boy or girl working and/or living away from home will not be eligible to compete for any of these trips.

4. Only one animal per club member will be eligible to make the trip (Beef and Sheep Trip). No animals are selected to make the goat trip, only the club members will travel on the goat trip.

5. Club members can participate in four educational trips with market animal projects and/or breeding animal projects (beef, sheep, and goat) during their club career (i.e. four market trips or four breeding trips; or any combination of the two projects). Beef, sheep, and goat project members will be eligible to compete for a fifth educational trip with a bred and owned animal (dam must have been shown by the exhibitor).

6. A club member can participate in only one Livestock Educational Award Trip in any given year.

7. If a club member is selected to go on an educational award trip at the designated selection show and then declines to go on the trip (backs out after the selection process) then the selection will will count toward their total number of educational award trips that they can participate in during their club career. The same rule will be in effect for alternates that are offered the trip due to cancellations. If they decline to go on the trip then it will count toward their total number of trips they can participate in during their club career. The only exceptions to this rule will be personal injury or a death in the family.



2010 Goat Educational Award Trip
Southwest or Southeast United States
July or August, 2010

General Rules and Regulations

1. The Goat Educational Award Trip will be held in the Summer (July or August) of 2010 with twenty (20) exhibitors selected for the trip traveling on an all expense paid educational award trip through the Southwest or Southeast United States for approximately 6 to 7 days.

2. The Goat Educational Award Trip selection contest will be held at the LSU AgCenter Junior Livestock Show (Goat Division) in Gonzales, Louisiana in February, 2010.

3. All potential contestants for the Goat Educational Award Trip must submit a participation form during the selection contests. These may be obtained from from your 4-H Agent or FFA Teacher or Dr. Terry Dumas or other Goat Show Superintendents at the LSU AgCenter Junior Livestock Show.

4. Club Members (4-H and FFA) shall indicate prior to the selection process that they definitely plan to attend the educational award trip, if selected. If they decide not to attend the educational award trip after they are selected, it will still count as one of their trips.

5. Transportation, meals lodging and educational activities will be provided for all participants selected to attend the Goat Educational Award Trip.

6. Club Members will be under the supervision of Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service chaperons and will be expected to conduct their actions fitting to 4-H and FFA principles.

7. Club Members selected to participate in the 2010 Goat Educational Award Trip will be given detailed information about the trip around the first of June, 2010 (i.e. Exact trip dates, trip itinerary, list of participants, etc.).
