Eight Union Parish youth attended 4-H Day at the Louisiana State Capitol, June 5, 2008. Students were rewarded this trip to the state capitol for doing a great job on their 4-H record book.
According to Carol Remy, LSU AgCenter Extension Agent, the purpose of the day is to showcase the 4-H program to the Louisiana legislature, to allow 4-H members to see government at work and expose 4-H youth to a little history of our state.
While at the event the students met with Representative Hollis Downs and Senator Mike Walsworth. They attended opening sessions of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. They toured both the old and new Louisiana Capitol buildings and the USS Kidd.
Union Parish 4-H’er Conrad Cable who is currently serving as State 4-H Parliamentarian was invited to eat dinner at the Governor’s Mansion Wednesday night. He also led the American Pledge at the opening assembly on the steps of the Capitol.
Other youth from Union Parish attending were: Kyle Hicks, Kade Hicks, Taylor Snell, Chelsea Caskey, Victoria Bryan, Bethany Rhodes, and Kaden Cable. Adults attending were Connie Snell and Carol Remy.
