Beef Ambassador Contest

The Vernon Parish 4-H Beef Ambassador Contest is scheduled to be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2008, at the parish 4-H Office. This event is sponsored by the Louisiana Cattlewomen and the Louisiana Cattleman’s Association.

Division I – 4-H Club Members – 9-12 year olds (by Jan. 1, 2009)

Division II – 4-H Club Members – 13-16 year olds (by Jan. 1, 2009)

Division III – 4-H Club Members – 17-20 year olds (by Jan. 1, 2009)

Each Commodity Ambassador Program consists of five (5) categories.

  1. Production of commodity
  2. Food preparation and nutritive value
  3. Food safety practices
  4. Processing
  5. Marketing


Division I – (9-12 year olds). Contestant:

(A) Designs poster 22” x 28” relating to one of five categories listed above.
(B) Presents a 2-3 minute explanation of posters subject.
(C) Responds to questions from judges.

Division II – (13-16 year olds). Contestant:

(A) Designs standard poster 22" x 28” relating to one of the five categories listed above.
(B) Prepares an essay not to exceed 500 words or three  typed pages, double spaced, about the selected subject.
(C) Presents a 2-3 minute explanation of subject.
(D) Responds to questions from judges.

Division III - (17-20 year olds). Contestant:

(A) Will present 5-8 minute oral presentation following current guidelines of the National Beef Ambassador contest (see attached scorecards)
(B) Responds to questions from judges
(C) Will be interviewed on an individual basis by separate panel of judges.

No PowerPoint presentations will be allowed. No costumes are allowed. No notes or outlines are to be used while giving the presentation.
