[Image: Shelby Blais]Miss Shelby Blais of Simpson Elementary 4-H was recently named the People’s Choice Award winner of the Elementary Division of the Miss Vernon 4-H Pageant. She collected more than $1,100 to take the elementary title. Shelby collected the money by sharing the Teen Leader Club’s goal with her friends and family and by going to many businesses and community leaders. Shelby is a second-year 4-H member at Simpson and is the 12-year-old daughter of Crystal Yurt and Joseph Blais Jr. Shelby was personally sponsored by the Lazy “J” Ranch, and the People’s Choice Award was sponsored by Gene Haymon, State Farm Insurance. The money raised through the People’s Choice Award sponsors several of the Vernon Parish 4-H Teen Leader service-learning projects such as the $500 for the Senior Miss Vernon 4-H, Cystic Fibrosis Research, March of Dimes and more. Miss Krystina Gill of Leesville Junior 4-H won the Junior Division and was sponsored by her parents Stuart and MariAnne Sumney, and Miss Taylor Erwin of Hornbeck Senior 4-H won the Senior Division and was sponsored by her parents Willie and Jamie Erwin.
