4-H Summer Camp
[Image: 4-H Summer Camp]Thirty-six fourth- through sixth-graders from across Vernon Parish attended summer 4-H Camp, June 8-12, 2009, along with more than 500 campers, teen counselors and adults from 11 other parishes across the state. The week was filled with activities that focused on SET- Science, Engineering and Technology, Dramatic Arts, Outdoor Skills, Louisiana Wetlands, or Food Science with free time activities such as canoeing, bike riding, parachute games, basketball, softball, line dancing and more. From making homemade ice cream in SET to creating skits in Dramatic Arts to taking water samples in Louisiana Wetlands 4-H campers not only learned something but also had a great time.
Attending from Vernon Parish were: Anacoco Elementary 4-H – Bradley Goins, Kade Hornsby, Mary Low, Cayla Roberts, Harley Scerbo and Jessica Taylor; Evans Elementary 4-H – Tony Garcia, Landon Harden, Katie Harvey, McKenna Loftin, Tater Reynolds and Kailee Smith; First Assembly 4-H – Jessica Burrell and Lana West; Hicks Elementary 4-H – Kaylee Busby, Hornbeck Elementary 4-H – Matthew Wells; Pickering Elementary 4-H – Alycia Brown, Samantha LaMonte and Aust[Image: 4-H Summer Camp]in Schackleford; Pitkin Elementary 4-H – Seth Fullington and Kris Kennedy; Rosepine Elementary 4-H – Coy Bailey, Victoria Brown, Bowen Farquhar and Peyton Perkins; Simpson Elementary 4-H – Shelby Blais, Josie Calcote, Jane Coward, Chelsi Hillman and Brenna Prewitt; Slagle Stompers 4-H – Isaiah Brown; and Vernon Middle 4-H – Layne Alexander, Jani Bator, Andwelle Foster, Donovan Foster and Taylor Moore.
Also attending as teen counselors were Zac Cecil , C.J. Koch and Erica Whitfield of Anacoco Senior 4-H; Caleb Minion of Evans Senior 4-H; Mandi Alford of Rosepine Senior 4-H; Brandi Brown of Slagle Stompers 4-H. Teen counselors served[Image: 4-H Summer Camp] as group leaders, assisted with teaching lessons, led recreational activities and more. Adult leaders were Dondi Alford and Meredith Durrett. They, along with LSU AgCenter 4-H agents Chad Hagan and Kem Johnson, taught lessons for the educational tracks, assisted with recreational activities and served as photographers.
