4-H U
[Image: 4-H U]During the week of June 23-26, 33 teens from across Vernon Parish joined close to 2,000 others as they participated in the annual Louisiana 4-H University, formerly known as state 4-H Short Course. In addition to competing in events, 4-H teens also participated in Clover College Programs, enjoyed motivational speakers, toured the LSU campus and enjoyed educational programs on a variety of topics related to teens.
During the opening ceremony, which took place in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on the LSU campus, Rae Addison of Leesville Senior 4-H carried in the Cenla Area 4-H Flag and introduced presenters as a Cenla Area representative. Also during the opening ceremonies, Sydney Williams of Anacoco Senior 4-H sang the National Anthem, and Caleb Minion of Evans Senior 4-H entertained the crowd with a classical piece on his cello.
On the Tuesday of the program, Dr Cindy Gillespie and Beryl Ford were recognized as State 4-H Alumni Winners for their continued support of the 4-H program here in Vernon Parish. This recognition occurred during the annual awards banquet at which Rae Addison also was recognized as a state 4-H scholarship winner.
Robby Price and C.J. Koch, both of Anacoco Senior 4-H, were named state winners in the Sports Broadcasting contest and will receive an all-expense-paid trip to San Antonio later this summer. Rae Addison placed second with her Horticulture General Demonstration entitled “Clover Florist.” Others placing included Zac Cecil of Anacoco Senior 4-H, who placed sixth in Photography, Betty Mitchell of Hornbeck Junior 4-H, who placed eighth in Louisiana Agriculture Products Demonstration, and Brandi Brown of Slagle Stompers 4-[Image: 4-H U]H and Drew Chesher of Anacoco Senior 4-H, who placed third in the Environmental Threat Resolutions contest.
Others participating included: Anacoco Junior and Senior 4-H: Stephen Briscoe, Creative Forces Clover College; Wade Morrison, Tryon Williams and Kenneth Ferguson, Outdoor Skills Triathlon; Dallas Jeter and Erica Whitfield, Computer Simulation; Kristen Morrison, Compact Tractor; Victoria Hendon, Co-op Public Speaking; and Sydney Williams, Talent. Evans Senior 4-H: Caleb Minion, Talent; Brett Rogers, Outdoor Skills Triathlon; Lillie Minion and Katie Frisbie, Consumer Foods Judging; Jacob Kay, Wildlife Habitat Judging; and Megan Smith and Trevor Fox, Livestock Judging. Faith Training Senior 4-H: Luke Landry, Livestock Judging. Hicks Senior 4-H: Becca Stanley, Consumer Foods Judging; Hornbeck Junior and Senior 4-H: Brittany Erwin, Consumer Foods Judging; and Taylor Erwin, Photography. Leesville Senior 4-H: Victoria Rodriguez, Child Develop[Image: 4-H U]ment; and Trey Dowden, Poultry Judging. Pickering Senior 4-H: Tabatha Broyles, Livestock Judging. Pitkin Senior 4-H: Krista Sesvold, Child Development. Rosepine Senior 4-H: Mandi Alford, Ready-to-Wear; and Cody Partridge, Outdoor Skills Triathlon.
Adults assisting with the weeklong event were Ray and Darlene Morrison, Dondi Alford, Tiffany Franklin, Tonya Tilley, Nan Arthur, J.J. Minion, Angie Brack and Meredith Durrett, along with LSU AgCenter agents Chad Hagan and Kem Johnson.
