The annual Washington Parish Christmas in July Homemaker Event was held on Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at the Washington Parish Fairgrounds Homemakers Building in Franklinton.

Seven people provided information and demonstrations on economical ways to make family friendly Christmas treats. Members from all five of the Washington Parish Homemakers groups, Bogue
Chitto, Busy Bees, Country Bumpkins, Fair City and the 50 Plus clubs were present. Clubs set up tables to raffle items as fundraisers for service projects. Raffle winners were: Pansy McClendon, who won the Council and the Country Bumpkins Raffles; Mary Alford, who won the Fair City Raffle; and Laura Wagner, who won the Bogue Chitto Raffle.

In total, more than 50 people enjoyed educational demonstrations, refreshments and a Fashion Show put on by the 4-H Sew with Cotton contestants. Each model was given a special gift provided by Jackie Smith of Jackie's Fabric Shop in Franklinton.

A special thanks to Mary Evelyn McDaniel for organizing such a wonderful event each year.
