The LSU AgCenter Launches New Healthy Living Program Through Wal-Mart Foundation Grant

The Healthy Living Program is an exciting national program that encourages residents to develop and maintain healthy, active lifestyles. The program is made possible through a grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation.  Washington Parish 4-H and Family & Consumer Science programs received grant funds to help tackle wellness issues such as nutrition, physical fitness and safety.

On October 5, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. we will launch the Healthy Living Program at the Washington Parish Fairgrounds. The event will take place in the Women’s Building located near the Washington Parish Fairgrounds entrance. The first 300 residents to sign up for the program will receive a pedometer at no charge as well as a tracking form and valuable information on healthy living.

Each participant will have a tracking form that will be turned in to determine your progress. The group with the most progress will win prizes, and each member that stays on track will get incentives along the way.

A regular walking club will meet at the fairgrounds (weather permitting) every Monday and Wednesday from 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.  Residents do not have to attend the scheduled walking club in order to participate in the program. Residents are encouraged to create walking clubs in their community, neighborhood, workplace or organization. If you would like to participate in the program but are unable to make it on October 5, please contact Valerie Vincent or Lacey Urick at the LSU AgCenter 985-839-7855, and they will arrange for your participation in the program. Get your walking shoes ready, we will see you on October 5, 2009.
