Moles in the Lawn

I constantly get calls about how to control moles in the lawn and flower beds. Unfortunately, you won't have too much success unless you use the mole trap, and that is a very slow process. A relatively new product is on the market, and although I question some of them, this one shows promise. It goes by the name TALPIRID and is formulated to look, feel and handle like earthworms, a mole’s favorite food. This bait can be purchased online.

Here is a mole repellent formula you may want to try. Let me know your results:

  • ¼ cup castor oil
  • 2 tablespoons liquid detergent
  • 6 tablespoons water

Whip together castor oil and detergent in blender until the mixture is like shaving cream. Add water and whip again. Take a regular garden sprinkling can, fill with warm water, add 2 tablespoons of the oil mixture and stir. Sprinkle immediately over the area of greatest mole infestation. For best results, apply after a rain or thorough watering.
