This is our major and most popular crop grown in the parish with 120 plus producers. There are many challenges to our producers, not only the high cost for production (seed, fertilizer, lime, pesticides, fuel cost); the most damaging aspects of production are insects and diseases. Listed are some of the diseases that will prevent producers from having a good production year: Anthracnose, Gummy Stem Blight, and Downy Mildew. Insects include: Spotted and Striped Cucumber Beetles, Aphids, and Squash Bugs just to name a few.
Now that our crop is beginning to be harvested, let’s be supportive of our producers by purchasing some of the Best Watermelons Grown in the Country!
