The crack of the shotgun and the chorus of youthful cheers were the only sounds to be heard on that cool day at the Howard Prince Memorial Gun Range where 4-H’ers were practicing their target skills. Through West Carroll Parish 4-H Shooting Sports, youth learn the safe handling of firearms, responsibility, and sportsmanship, but most importantly they have fun. The program also promotes increased family communications and quality time spent together, for the parents are always welcome at the shooting range.
All youth in 4-H, ages 9 to 19, are invited to join the West Carroll Parish 4-H Shooting Sports Program. All you need to bring with you is a box of shotgun ammunition, your shotgun, eye protection, and ear protection. If you are new to the sport and do not have all of the equipment, then that’s okay. The Shooting Sports program has purchased two shotguns and multiple eye and ear protection through a grant presented to us by the NRA, so all you really need to bring is a box of ammunition.
