SUMMER ACTIVITIES & WINNERS
4-H University - West Feliciana 4-H'ers enjoyed contests, elections, educational programs and recreation at the 2009 4-H University at LSU in June.

Jeremy Dixon placed fourth in the Wildlife Habitat Evaluation contest. That earned him a place on the Louisiana team in the national competition. The team placed fifth in the national WHEP competition held at Toledo Bend in July.

Summer Alsadi was a blue ribbon winner in the public speaking contest. She also was elected regional representative to the state 4-H Executive Committee.

Other blue ribbon winners in competition were Samantha Bickham, Ty Beauchamp and Sarah Brian in Dairy Judging, Jill Ferguson in Public Speaking, Chrystal Lachney in Career Preparation and Darcey Walsh in Photography.  Other West Feliciana Parish 4-H members participating in 4-H U were Kelly Hughes in Photography, and Lorna Klein, who attended the Clover College seminar in theater arts.

Rifle Team
Five members of the parish 4-H rifle team represented Louisiana in Junior Olympic competition in Camp Perry, Ohio, this summer. Team members were Christian Hashagen, Leah Ewing, Victoria Hines, Tanner Morgan and Collin Morgan.  The team finished in 20th place overall. Leah Ewing was a silver medalist in her age group.

Horse Shows
Sarah Brian exhibited the Grand Champion Appaloosa Halter Mare at the Southeast District horse show. She placed third in Trail, fourth in Western Showmanship and fifth in Reining at the state horse show.

Kelly Hughes placed fourth in Pole Bending, fifth in Stake Race, and 16th in Barrel Racing at the Southeast District show.

4-H Camp
A great group attended camp for fourth- through sixth-graders in June. They participated in tracks such as Outdoor Skills, Louisiana’s Wetlands, S.E.T. (Science, Engineering, and Technology), Dramatic Arts, and Food and Nutrition. There were also dances, swimming, arts and crafts, a talent show, and other fun activities.  Jarid Sturgeon qualified for state archery competition in August by placing second in the camp competition. Thanks to Chrystal Lachney, Toni Pinkney and Lorna Klein, junior counselors, and Sherry Alexander, volunteer leader, for all their help at camp.

LOST Camp
Nicholas Riente attended the new 4-H summer camp for seventh- and eighth-graders from all over Louisiana with a focus on science, engineering and technology.

Wild Woods Wanderings
Lillian Barber, Katrina Hashagen, and Jeremy Dixon joined 4-H members from other parishes for the weeklong environmental camp at Poverty Point and Tensas National Wildlife Refuge.

UPCOMING EVENTS
