UPCOMING ACTIVITIES
Sweet Potato Sale - 4-H members will be taking orders for 40# boxes of sweet potatoes to be delivered to St. Francisville for pickup in mid-November. Elementary 4-H members will receive a Clover Buck for each box sold. Order forms are available at the 4-H office with price and deadlines.
Officer Training - Officers will be provided with training before the November 4-H meetings. They will meet during school and get materials and ideas for 4-H meetings.
Louisiana 4-H Pizza Day – October 8 – Get coupons to redeem at Papa John’s at the website lsuagcenter.com/4HPizzaDay.
Fall Family Fishing Day – October 17 - Do your parents ever take you fishing? Well, here’s a chance for you to take them fishing. The flyer has all the details and a registration form to turn in by October 14.
Rifle Workshop – October 24 - This is open to all 4-H members enrolled in the Shooting Sports project. Eligible members will receive information in the mail or at 4-H club meetings. The camp is required for those who want to join the Rifle Team and have not attended a camp in previous years.
4-H Night with the LSU Tigers Tailgate Party, November 14, LSU vs. La Tech – Even if you don’t have tickets for the game, a large tailgate party is planned for this special game. Activities will start at 10:00 am and will include food, games, door prizes, appearances by cheerleaders and more. The game will be aired on a wide-screen TV. For more information contact the 4-H office at 635-3614.
Camp Slogan Contest - What’s a good theme for 4-H Summer Camp? Send us your most creative ideas for a slogan -- in 7 words or less – along with an illustration. The winning slogan will be one that is brief and “catchy”, capturing the spirit of 4-H and Camp Grant Walker. The winning slogan will be used on all publicity for camp and on the camp T-shirt. The winner will receive a cash award.
Entries for the slogan contest must include the following: full name and age of 4-H member, parish,
4-H Club, complete mailing address and telephone number. Entries must be in the 4-H office by October 30.
LIVESTOCK EXHIBITS
Regional Rabbit Show – November 23 in Raceland. Rabbit project members will receive the information and registration form with project books or by mail. Possession date for rabbits is one month before the show.
For information on the 4-H livestock program, including animal selection and management, please phone Mr. Ken Spoto at 683-3101. Dates on which 4-H’ers must have “possession” of their animals for upcoming shows are listed below. The Feliciana 4-H/FFA Jr. Livestock Show is held in late January; LSU District Show, in early Feb.; the LSU State, in mid-Feb.; and the Southern Univ. Show in late Feb/early March.
Animals to be Exhibited at LSU Shows - The possession date for Beef, Dairy, Goat, and Lamb breeding animals and Beef and Dairy Commercial Heifers, Market lambs, Commercial Ewes, Market Goats, and Commercial Does is November 1. The commercial and market animals, only, will be validated and classified November 2-7 at a location to be announced later. Possession date for Breeding and Market Hogs is December 1; Market Hogs will be validated during the week of December 1-5, also at a location to be announced later.
Animals to be Exhibited at Southern University - Steer possession date is October 1. The possession date for Beef, Dairy, Goat, and Lamb breeding animals and Beef and Dairy Commercial Heifers, Market lambs, Commercial Ewes, Market Goats, and Commercial Does is November 30. Possession date for Breeding and Market Hogs is December 15.
Additional information - For fancy poultry going to LSU, November 1. Deadline for ordering meat broiler chicks for LSU is November 7.
FASHION BOARD
The parish board will be open to any interested 4-H member in the 7th grade and up. There will be an organizational meeting on Monday, October 19 at 6:00 pm at the 4-H office.
JUNIOR LEADER CLUB
This club, which meets once a month outside school hours, is for all 4-H’ers in 8th grade and up who want to be more involved in 4-H. The next meeting will be held on October 26, 5:30 pm at the 4-H office.
