Winn Parish 4-H Programs and Club Schedules and 4-H Enrollment Cards

Confucius Says! 4-H is Worth a Fortune is this year's theme. During 2009-10 Winn Parish 4-H agents Becky Kelley and Donny Moon will focus educational information on "Safety."  4-H members will learn safety practices related to severe weather, internet use, money management, bicycle and car use, water sports and outdoor activities and relationships with others to promote safe and healthy living.  Students who join    4-H will have some "fortunate" opportunities to make new friends, gain knowledge, experience independence, belonging, and the joy of serving others during monthly 4-H programs. Be sure to look for the 4-H Newsletter online each month to see exciting events that will take place. .

The parish Program Focus, 4-H Calendar of Events and links to the scheduled meeting dates for 4-H school clubs are attached below.

Monthly focuses for the club programs will be:

September
Orientation/4-H Enrollment/Introduce Safety Lesson Series. Youth will increase knowledge of recommended safety practices related to severe weather, internet use, money management, bicycle and car use, water sports & outdoor activities and relationships with others to promote safe and healthy living.

October
"Severe Weather Safety" - Youth will identify various types of weather-related natural hazards and discuss safety strategies applicable to natural hazards. (Give Pre- Assessment)

November
"Get Fired Up About Outdoor Cookery" Youth will discuss the various methods of outdoor cookery and identify safety practices related to outdoor cookery.

December
"Don’t Be a Target." (Jr. Clubs – Bullying/Home Alone) (Sr. Clubs – Identity Theft") Youth will develop an awareness of situations targeting them as victims of bullying, identity theft, or other dangerous acts.

January
"Riding Safe" (Jr. Clubs-Fitness – bicycling) Sr. Clubs – Car Safety) Youth will identify and discuss safety rules of the road regarding cycling, skateboarding, and riding in or driving a car.

February
"Cyber Safety" (Internet Use) Youth will identify and use skills to insure internet safety and protection from online dangers, such as, invasion of privacy and cyber stalking.

March
"Fishing for Safety" (Water sports, sun safety, outdoor safety – plants/animals) Youth will increase awareness of safety rules and practices involving the use of water crafts (such as boats, jet skies, canoes) and other outdoor safety tips including sun and insect protection.
