Wheat field day set for April 6 at LSU AgCenter’s Iberia Research Station

News Release Distributed 03/27/09

NEW IBERIA, La. – Farmers will get the chance to see an LSU AgCenter demonstration plot of wheat varieties at an April 6 field day.

The event will start at 9 a.m. at the LSU AgCenter’s Iberia Research Station, 603 LSU Bridge Road, between New Iberia and Jeanerette. It will continue at a demonstration plot of 18 wheat varieties on a nearby farm.

Dr. Steve Harrison, LSU AgCenter wheat breeder, will be on hand to discuss the characteristics of each variety.

Jimmy Flanagan, LSU AgCenter county agent in St. Mary Parish, said more sugarcane farmers are becoming interested in growing wheat, and this is an opportunity for them to learn more about the crop.
